Overview

The JBL PRX418S is an passive eighteen-inch subwoofer handling 800 watts of continuous power, and rated with a 130 dB SPL peak. It is calibrated to connect perfectly with any of the satellite 2-way speakers in the PRX line, like the JBL PRX615M or the JBL PRX625. However, it will work well with other speaker systems in any full-range situation when a woofer with a nominal 8 ohm line impedance is called for. Extend your passive PA system's low end with this tough JBL sub!

Like the rest of the speakers in the PRX line, the PRX418S is designed to provide sound reinforcement in a wide variety of situations, and is ruggedly built to withstand transport even in rough climes. It would make an ideal fixed subwoofer in a small to medium sized performance venue, or as the mobile unit in a live sound or DJ rig.

Built to Sound Great and Last Forever

The speaker inside the PRX418S is a Selenium 457mm (18-inch) woofer in a front-loaded, vented enclosure. The speaker is protected behind a heavy-duty 16-gauge protective-screen-backed steel grille that resists dents and scratches. JBL specially designed the birch/poplar multi-laminate hardwood cabinet on the PRX418S series to give the speaker maximum frontal surface, helping it render low end with more prominence and clarity than other woofers. The enclosure is finished in super tough DuraFlex finish.

JBL PRX418S Passive PA Subwoofer

The JBL PRX418S is an eighteen-inch subwoofer which, when combined with JBL's two-way models, provides a sub/sat system capable of generating 135 dB of full-range, high-quality audio. PRX400 passive speakers were designed to provide the sensitivity, frequency response and power handling needed to address a multitude of demanding audio environments while still being reasonably priced.

For musicians, DJ's, House of Worship, public address, or suspended in a commercial environment like a school or nightclub, they can be used with a powered mixer or a full rack of amps and signal processing, delivering the sound power and bandwidth necessary to make loud music sound natural and even quiet speech intelligible. "JBL You Can Feel It, Booming Subwoofer!!!"

I currently have an old school QSC RMX amp that I am running in bridge mono mode to power this baby at ~1200 watts, as well as 2 QSC K12 as my mains. All I can say is this subwoofer is comparable (or even better) to the QSC kw181... even running it at 800-1000 watts sounds amazing and can fill a good size room. The Selenium SWS1000 18" Subwoofer is the heart of this BASS machine and you can hear and feel the quality. The rear connections include a Neutrik Speakon and 1/4 TRS option, very convenient (use Speakon to prevent disconnects). It also only weighs 79 pounds and light enough for solo gigs. During testing my entire 2 story home was shaking and my neighbors thought there was an earthquake with this JBL as the epicenter. I'm saving up for a second one so I can couple them (yes with a 2nd amp that can bridge @ 4ohms and close to 2500 watts) to get the extra DB. Just buy it already if you have a powerful amp collecting dust.
