Vox Mini Superbeetle Guitar Amplifier Stack
Updated May 28, 2025 14:13 by Pat Betzold
This is Patrick with zZounds, and I'm here with the Vox Mini Superbeetle. Some things to know about this: this is a mini guitar amp head and cabinet stack that is built on new tube technology, which is a kind of neat little thing. They are credit card-shaped, flat mini tubes. This is a two-powered head, incredibly lightweight. You can get 50 watts at 4 ohms, 25 watts at 8 ohms, and 12.5 watts at 16 ohms.

It's based on the vintage Vox Superbeetle, which was made for The Beatles in the '60s. That was a big amp that had casters and a giant speaker setup for them to play large venues. This is a little kind of practice amp version of it, with just one channel: volume, reverb, tremolo, bass, treble, and gain.

The tremolo is a one-knob thing where, as you turn it up, the speed increases at the same time as the depth increases. It still sounds pretty nice. The reverb is digital, and it's got a solid-state power amp, but the preamp is tube-based.

On the back, you can see speaker outputs. You can get two cabs plugged in here, with those three settings I mentioned. It also has a deep function that adds some bass to the cabinet. As you can see, it's got a really cool-looking 1x10 cabinet. I'll say it doesn’t have the most bass response in it, but it's a pretty good cab for practice.

What really makes this thing shine is if you plug it into a 4x12. I gotta say, honestly, I kind of like this more than an AC15 or an AC10 if you plug it into a new cab. Just a great-sounding head, read more a lot of options for practice, but also totally usable on a gig.

Check it out at zZounds. This is the Vox Mini Superbeetle. Thanks for watching.

This amp may be a one trick pony, but it does it very well. I was surprised by the big sound out of such a tiny package. The reverb sounds just right for me and at higher gain settings it has a convincing tube crunch. I feel no need to upgrade the speaker and it's plenty loud at 25 watts for my living room. This set up is highly recommended for practice playing. I would've liked an exposed Nutube and perhaps an effects loop, but I don't feel the need to add pedals.
