"A good mic for general recording at a non-pro level"
In a world where most cheaper condenser mics have brittle highs and excess sibilance boosted to give the appearance of an airy sound, it's nice to find one that has been designed for the user who wants a bit more width than a dynamic will provide without much fussing to EQ and De-Ess. This mic has a warmer sound with a bit of mud in the lows, which is easy to EQ out. It tames sibilance. I suggest a high pass from around 90hz, and reducing at your choice in the 200hz to 500hz range. If you still feel this mic too warm, then lift a few db around 3k, and add a little air above 8k. But for the typical low-price buyer who wants a bit more sound than a dynamic, without having to get too close, this mic works well. Its pattern is between cardiod and supercardiod, so you don't pick up as much room noise as with something such as an AT2020 or 2035. The bass on the AT mics is richer and more detailed, however the Mackie provides a good forward sound to my voice which does well in Zoom meetings and recorded teaching videos. I do EQ a bit, as mentioned above, but you can get by without it and the general public wouldn't be bothered. This is a better choice than cheaper condensers by unknown or fly-by-night manufacturers. It is easier to boost EQ on its warm output than to reduce the shrill mess created by other cheap mics.
