The Gretsch RGE625 Renegade series is a complete drum set package designed specifically for the entry-level drummer and packed with value. The toms have "quick" sizes, which provide punchy tones and allow for lower positioning that benfits younger drummers. All shells are 9-ply basswood with 45-degree bearing edges. Other features include ball-style tom holders, adjustable bass drum spurs and metal BD hoops with matching inlay.

I purchased this kit from Zzounds as a Christmas present for my 8 year old son. Being a new kit on the market I bought it blind but figured I'd take the chance based on brand reputation. I was not disapointed with the purchase. It comes with snare, 2 toms, 1 floor tom, a crash, high hats, throne and of course all hardware.

Sound quality of the drums is very good! My sons instructor has a custom $5000 plus kit and while it obviously sounds better, I was suprised that the Gretsch starter kit sounds as good as it does by compairison. I will note though that the cymbols sound horrible. But it gave me time to purchase new cymbols for the kit rather than dropping another $200 plus right away. Most kits don't even include cymbols anyway.

The hardware is sturdy and easily adjustable. I have it set up for my 4' son and can quickly adjust to play myself (5'8"). Another nice feature is that the heads that come with the kit are Remo brand.

Ease of Use
The kit was fairly easy to tune and the foot pedals function well. My son works his way around the kit well and it really keeps his interest. I have to say though, for it being a starter kit, I'm highly suprised it didn't come with instructions to put the kit together. Gretsch should really supply a manual. They don't even have one on their web site.

I am highly impressed with the quality of the read more drums themselves but again, the cymbols are almost worthless. Within 2 months the high hats are no longer useable. I wouldn't let that hold you back from getting the kit though since most kits don't come with cymbals.

I'm very pleased with what I got for the money I spent. It's a great kit overall and I'm actually pleased that I had cymbals type things to hit for a couple of months before needing to spend more money. Most other brands I would have had to drop that cash right away.

Manufacturer Support
I've not dealt with Gretsch customer service so I can't comment much here. It would have been nice to have instructions or an owners manual though. Good thing there's youtube!

The Wow Factor
The kit is very appealing. The red finish looks great and the kit is holding up with no issues other than the cymbals. I'd recommend it to any beginning drummer!
