Audix D6 Large Format Bass Drum Microphone

Audix's industry-standard D6 kick drum mic gives you undistorted and thunderous low-end response. Reproduce rich lows all the way down to 30 Hz without EQ!

Capture a consistently solid kick drum sound with your Audix D6 large-format bass drum microphone. This powerful tool has a deep frequency response of 30 Hz to 15 kHz, a high maximum SPL of 144 dB, a cardioid polar pattern, and a VFL diaphragm for fast transient response. Weighing only .48 pounds, it's easy to place -- and it has a way of easily finding the "sweet spot." The low frequency response on this baby is also tuned for recording bass cabinet as well. Add this dynamic mic to your recording gear and get the best out of your rumbling bottom-end tones.

Tuned to Get a Full-bodied Sound

The Audix D6 kick drum mic is geared to capture the full-bodied sound of your kick, thanks to its frequency response of 30 Hz to 15 kHz. During mixing you can dial in more of that low body, and you can also bring up the 10 kHz to 15 kHz area to get more of that "click" sound into your mix. You will be able to consistently grab a wide spectrum of frequencies and a broad range of kick tones from just one mic.

Quick Setup and Consistently Superior Capture

If you've ever miked a kick drum before, you know that setup can often take several scratch takes followed by repositioning your kick drum mic to hone in on that "sweet spot." This baby does a fantastic job of capturing a solid kick sound in virtually any position on your kick drum, because of its instinctive "sweet spot-detecting" character. This will speed up setup time!

Fast Transient Response

Your D6 is fitted with a VFL read more diaphragm to take in the high-decibel intensity from your kick drum. With a high maximum SPL of 144 dB, this mic won't fold for drummers with heavy feet. A fast and reliable transience response means that every kick will maintain its color, full-bodied tone, and punch with confidence and continual assurance.

Dynamic Microphone with a Cardioid Polar Pattern

Your dynamic Audix D6 captures your kick sound in a directional cardioid polar pattern, so you can worry less about snare or tom bleed getting in the way during tracking. This baby also works well as an amplified bass microphone because of its determination to hone in on those boomy frequencies and accentuate the drive and punch of low-end instruments.

"if everyone else bought a beta52 does that mean you would too?"
Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
Although I don't have experience with other dedicated bass drum mics, I know what good audio sounds like. This is a quality product made in the USA and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
Sound
I have not done side by side comparisons of bass drum mics, but purchased the D6 based on a recommendation and lots of internet research. I have been able to get very different and very good sounds by altering placement of the mic. Inside my 18x20 maple bass drum the mic picks up good attack and plenty of low end punch.
Features
It comes with a quality mic clip, thread adapter and a padded pouch which is all you could really ask for.
Quality
The mic is machined out of a solid piece of aluminum. There is nothing to rattle and I'm sure it is quite durable, though I don't plan on testing this theory.
Value
It's ten bucks more than a beta52 and same price as a D112, sounds great and seems like a winner.
Manufacturer Support
I have had no need to contact customer support thus far.
