Quilter Aviator Cub Guitar Combo Amplifier (50 Watts, 1x12")

zZounds Gear Experts Say...
Add a huge dose of vintage-flavored versatility to your rig with the Aviator Cub. Choose between authentic '60 Tweed, '62 Blonde, and '65 Blackface voicings.
Overview
The Aviator Cub represents Quilter's most advanced single-channel combo amplifier. After careful sourcing and testing, Quilter packed in three historical treasures: a '60 Tweed, a '62 Blonde, and a '65 Blackface. Unleashing them is as easy as plugging into the era you want to play in. Built for speed, the Aviator Cub is as powerful as it is lightweight and economical.
Combining forces with world-class speaker manufacturer Eminence, Quilter developed a super-sonic 12-inch speaker that delivers all of the charm of classic low powered speakers, but with 50 watt power handling; a speaker that's first in its class. Whether you're after the mid-range power of a Tweed, the throaty yet bell-like Blonde, or the scooped mid-range and silky highs of a Blackface, the Aviator Cub delivers it all without ever breaking a sweat.

"Excellent Grab-n-Go amp."

Wow, where to start? It showed up at my doorstep about 1 pm, unboxed and tested for fifteen minutes and at 5 was set up at a New Years gig. It sounded that good that quick, having fiddled with the controls only once. The Quilter Aviator Cub checked all the boxes I needed to fill the vacant "Grab-n-Go" slot in my amp collection; 1x12, light, enough volume, some gain, nice tone and not too expensive. It totally exceeded my hopes on every point but the price, but at $649 it did fall into my criteria. Along with all that it has a super nice digital reverb for folks like me who like a tiny "on all the time" splash with perfect timbre and length with no cheesy "boing". An FX loop, a cool limiter control and three differently voiced inputs also add a lot to be experimented with, and after last night's gig I have every reason to be optimistic. Along with being strangely light when you pick it up (21.5 lbs) - so far every time I jerk it up into the air, I'm not the first reviewer to point out the weirdness of such a large sound coming from such a small cabinet which is barely if at all larger than a tweed Deluxe. This could be partially if not largely credited to the Eminence 12" designed just for this amp. Doesn't seem scientifically possible, but there you are. Plus, with a powerful drummer pounding a mid '80s maple Gretsch kit I still had plenty of reserve on both the master and gain controls, so the general rule of "tube watts x 1/2 = solid state watts" does not apply here, although…

it's surely not a paint peeling "Marshall 2204" type 50 watts. Straight out of the box and into a gig is a very tough test for any amp, and this one didn't simply rise to the challenge but impressed greatly. I think you have to go to the really expensive boutique gear to beat this amp. I like it very much. Bravo, Quilter Labs.
Sound
Nice organic blended sound of tubes and old fashioned non-digital solid state tones (Yamaha/GK). Very musical, responsive and touch sensitive, full bodied voicings.
Features
No channel switching - odd, but I don't use it anyway. The amp allows you to easily do that with your guitar's volume control. Excellent verb, loop and cool Limiter control.
Ease of Use
Great sounds as soon as you plug in. Easy and quick to dial.
Quality
Fit and finish is perfect, simple but tasteful looks. Nice cover included, unusual at this price range.
Value
Amp is very much worth the price.
Manufacturer Support
Brand new, no contact with company.
The Wow Factor
Appeal of this product could be limited with no channel switching, but I don't think it needs it. I think it's perfect just like it is.
