Mapex Black Panther Shadow Birch/Walnut Snare

Mapex Black Panther Shadow Birch/Walnut Snare, 6.5x14 Inch, Action Position Back

zZounds Gear Experts Say...

This BP Shadow snare combines a 6-ply birch/walnut shell and Mapex's SONIClear bearing edge, giving you a drum with deep, dark character that's easy to tune.

Overview

The Mapex Black Panther Shadow is a 6.5" x 14" Birch Walnut Snare that is gloomy and lends a bit of obscurity to the mix when darkness is the prevailing musical character. Dusky and shady, this drum growls through any midnight groove.

SONIClear- Bearing Edge
The SONIClear- Bearing Edge is standard on all BP Snare drum shells and allows the drumhead to sit flatter and make better contact with the shell. The result is a stronger and deeper fundamental pitch, effortless and consistent tuning, and a significantly expanded tuning range. For the serious player, the increased head-to-edge contact increases shell vibration, allowing the sonic nuances of the Hybrid shell to stand out.

Air Flow Venting
One of the most thrilling elements of playing Black Panther Snare Drums is the feel of the instrument. The Air Flow Venting is key to this feel and to the overall resonance of each shell. Through a painstaking testing process, each Black Panther model has been fitted with the ideal quantity of vent holes for this ultimate feel combined with premium sound & resonance.

Cylinder-Drive Strainer
The Cylinder-drive strainer and butt side adjustment use a self-lubricating bearing to insure smooth operation. The adjustment knobs employ "micro-lock" technology providing precise tension control.

I read a ton reviews and watched a ton of videos on this snare drum and I was shocked that nobody mentioned the wonderful box and black velour drum cover that this drum arrives in. I absolutely love the Mapex snare drum rims that make the drum sing, and when you hit a rim shot, you don’t have to hit it as hard as you normally do. I tried this drum at low and medium tension and was happy until I cranked it up to medium high and then I pretty much couldn’t stop playing this outstanding snare drum except to take a break to leave a review. The drum looks amazing, the packaging is better than any drum I’ve ever purchased and I’ve owned a lot of different drums and most importantly the sound is outstanding. The snare throw off is so smooth. If you’re familiar with the Omar Hakim signature snare drum, this reminds me of it, but with way more depth and character. I tend to play a lot of progressive rock, progressive, jazz, standard jazz, blues, and 80s rock and this snare drum is absolutely perfect.
