When I first noticed this series I was mildly intrigued. I haven't played a Schecter in quite some time. I'm not a big fan of EMG's and their necks always felt just a little too chunky and glossy for me. But it seems that now they're offering guitars with "ultra thin" necks and satin finishes. The new Decimator pickup's, though proprietary, sounded interesting and I've always wanted a guitar with a Sustainiac. And with it's unique look it definitely caught my attention. If you're looking for a Rock/Metal machine with above the norm features, look no further.

Sound
The Diamond Decimator pickup in the bridge is not a USA product, like their other proprietary pickups in their other lines. I'm not sure what the specs on it are because they don't list it on their website like their USA pickups. It does seem rather hot, maybe a ceramic? Does well with distortion. The Sustainiac in the neck only functions as an active pickup when the Sustainiac is off. When the Sustainiac is on only the Decimator functions. This can be a bit confusing sometime. The Sustainiac itself is a cool feature, providing insane amounts of sustain and feedback. There is no coil tapping function on this guitar like there is on the hardtail, 7-string and Floyd Rose HH models. The ash body, 5 piece set neck and ebony fretboard enhance the sonic frequencies and definitely add to it's sonic characteristics.

Features
This Reaper series seems to be Schecter's read more top-of-the-line from their Indonesian facility. It does lack some of the refinements offered on their South Korean made instruments, such as Hipshot hardware and locking tuners, but then again it's several hundred dollars less than those guitars. The quality is better than adequate, so I'm not really complaining. It does have the new Floyd Rose 1500 series tremolo like their South Korean guitars, which is definitely a nice feature. The 5 piece satin finish neck is very similar to an Ibanez 3 pc Nitro Wizard neck in dimension and feel. Definitely made with shredding in mind.

Ease of Use
Ease of use? Three words: Floyd Rose Tremolo! Hahahaha!I did install a WD Tremolo Stopper and an EVH D-Tuna and had all sorts of setup issues afterwards because the Floyd Rose is mounted way deep in the body. Ended up having to lift the bridge to an odd angle and do all sorts of other finagling with the setup for everything to line up properly.

Quality
I would say the quality of this guitar is way above average for it's price point. Everything is solid. Fret work is excellent. Build quality is top notch.

Value
This is definitely a good value. My other guitars are Ibanez Iron Labels, which are generally more expensive and offer a few more higher end features, but usually cost 2-3 hundred dollars more, so it's like comparing apples to oranges. But all in all, with a set neck, Floyd Rose 1500 and a Sustainiac on a really badass looking guitar for just over a grand, this is an awesome value.

Manufacturer Support
Emailed Schecter with a question regarding product registration. They responded the next day. (BTW they don't do online product registration anymore. Just save your original receipt in case you need warranty work done)

The Wow Factor
One look at this guitar and you know your grandpa ain't gonna be slinging it at the local blues jam! It's pretty much made for just one thing. The reverse headstock, poplar burl laminate and body offsets definitely make this a unique looking guitar.
