What's special about this item?

Feature: What it does:
58/15 "S" Humbuckers Clear and balanced set of humbuckers
PRS/LR Baggs piezo bridge pickup True acoustic sound to blend with magnetic pickups
Wide Fat neck profile Comfortable; great for articulate playing
Ebony fretboard Dark color, tight grain; premium fretboard wood

The SE Hollowbody II Piezo combines the clear, resonant tone of a hollowbody instrument with the power and stability of a solid-body electric guitar. Constructed with a maple top and back with mahogany sides, the SE Hollowbody II Piezo offers a balanced voice with light shimmer and snap in an attractive package. The 58/15 S pickups deliver a clarity that sounds big and musical in a hollowbody platform.

Boasting a newly designed LR Baggs/PRS Piezo system, the SE Hollowbody II Piezo provides musicians with the versatility of wielding both acoustic and electric tones in one instrument. The instrument is designed with two discrete volume controls (magnetics and piezo) and output jacks (mix/piezo and magnetics). Players can plug into the Mix/Piezo jack and use the individual volume controls to blend the 58/15 S pickups with the piezos acoustic tones. Alternatively, players can plug into the jacks separately, so the guitar can run magnetic pickups into an amp and run the piezo through an acoustic amp or DI into the soundboard. When using the magnetic output jack in isolation, the piezo battery is bypassed completely, acting as a failsafe (in this scenario, the magnetic pickups still work even if the piezo battery has run out of juice). This is the most versatile SE instrument in the Series' nearly twenty-year history.

Good guitar, sounds good and looks even better. Had trouble with the Piezo after having the guitar for about a month, but PRS fixed it.

Sound
This guitar has the hollowbody sound you'd expect. The 58/15 S pickups sound really good. I have a core PRS and the core pickups are darker, but the"S" pickups are not too thin or shrill by any means.

Features
One of the things I like about this guitar is the fact that you can blend the Piezo in with the regular magnetic pickups. There really is an endless amount of tones one can get out of this guitar.

Ease of Use
Easy to play and set up well out if the box.

Quality
After about three weeks the high E string volume dropped significantly on the Piezo system. zZounds did not have another one in stock at the time for an exchange (they were very kind and helpful), so I contacted PRS and they paid for shipping to and from the factory. It looks like they replaced the bridge, though they never told me what the problem was. I'm thankful for their customer Support but when I got my guitar back it appeared that they did not even attempt to adjust it at all (it was way off, strings literally laying on the bridge pickup). Not a problem for me, but not everyone can do their own guitar set ups. Just makes me wonder what they would've done if it had been my core McCarty 594 or my PRS tube amp I sent in for repair...but none the less read more they fixed it. Took about two weeks turn around time.

Value
I think this guitar is a bit over priced. But I do like it, so I'm gonna keep it.

Manufacturer Support
PRS is very easy to reach and responded quickly, and communicated with me along the process.

The Wow Factor
I got this guitar because as I'm getting older I just can't play acoustic much anymore. The piezo fills that gap for me.
