Michael Kelly 1954 Electric Guitar, Ebony Fingerboard

This T-style electric adds modern edge to a classic '50s design with its quilt maple top, compound-radius ebony fretboard, and coil-tappable bridge pickup.

What's special about this item?

Feature: What it does:
Alder body Light weight with a wide tonal range
Ebony fretboard Dark color, tight grain; premium fretboard wood
Maple neck Bright tone, full sustain and strength
Quilted maple top Beautiful "wavy" grain; adds clarity

The 1954 might be called the black sheep of Michael Kelly's 1950s collection. It avoids tradition in favor of a bolder look and tone. You can't help but notice the satin finish and exotic wood top. The powerful Rockfield SWC humbucker can be coil-tapped to deliver single-coil tone. The fast and comfortable neck is enhanced with a compound radius on the premium Macassar Ebony fingerboard. So askew tradition with your own 1954.

I can't really compare this to a genuine Tele but I can say that it's a great playing and sounding instrument that will give you a variety of sounds in one package. Heavy distortion, cleans, inbetweens, I was actually surprised how well this guitar handles gain, even in its single coil settings (neck and coil-tapped bridge), the pickups are very clear and articulate. Neck plays great, tuners are solid and hold well and the whole package is really and eye-catcher. The only thing that sticks out as being less than perfect on this guitar is that there's a little bit of sharpness along the edges of the frets. Nothing that's going to shred your fingers or need serious work to fix but it's something to mention on an otherwise really well put together guitar. If you want a modernized Tele style that can handle pretty much any type of music you throw at it, you can't go wrong with one of these.
