I got this for my daughter as she didn’t like my electronic kit. While assembling the Mapex kit I noticed several flaws in the finish. Nothing that impacted the sound, but for a brand like Mapex I didn’t expect the finish to be so haphazardly done. They cymbals are pretty bottom of the barrel. You will want to upgrade those at some point if you want a decent sound. For a young drummer, or someone just starting out these would work for a while. You definitely want to get a ride cymbal. The 16” crash doesn’t sound well for a ride. The heads are okay. I put dampeners on this kit to reduce noise, so the heads won’t take much of a beating. If you plan on playing a little I would upgrade to mesh or hydraulic heads. I had a spare DW5000 single pedal kick that I put on it so she has better control. The Mapex kick pedal worked fine, but the DW is much better. All in all the kit is decent enough for the price. It does literally come with everything from sticks to a throne and pedal. The sticks suck. Get some Vic Firths or some other good sticks. These are way too light and soft. Any type of aggressive playing and they won’t last one session.
