Overview

Made in partnership with the Gibson Custom Shop, the Limited Edition 1959 Les Paul Standard is Epiphone's stunning recreation of the rare vintage classic. Featuring a mahogany body with a AAA figured maple top, comfortable 1959 handrolled neck prole with long neck tenon, aged gloss finish, Gibson USA BurstBucker 2 & 3 humbucking pickups, Switchcraft selector switch and output jack, CTS pots, 50s era wiring, Mallory capacitors, non-beveled pickguard, new Epiphone Deluxe vintage tuners, and a vintage-style brown hard case. Included is an Epiphone Limited Edition metal medallion toggle switchplate.

The 1959 Standard is truly a great guitar. Having owned several Gibsons and many Epiphones I have to say that I really was quite impressed with the quality of the build and the sound of the instrument. I had previously owned and sold a 1960's Tribute and honestly regret that decision. The 1959 however has reclaimed that place in my heart, however. The build quality is solid, it feels great in the hand, and the neck has just the right amount of chunk. The Burstbucker 2 and 3 give it a great clear tone with the awesome electronics (I have long been a fan of Mallory Caps and 50's wiring). The only issue that I had with mine was the "D" tuner was broken. The button would turn, but the post would just click and not properly tension the string. I did end up buying a replacement set of Epiphone tuners online and corrected the problem. The tuners themselves are honestly fine, I have not had any tuning stability issues since the replacement. The nut was cut very well on mine, I just cleaned up the spaces with some files as I use hybrid gauge strings. The frets are level and smooth ends, they did need just a little love with some fret paper and steel wool. A little play in and they are glassy now. I have read many comments on the finish, and I will admit that I am a huge fan of the thin skin satin. It feels smooth in the hands, great playability on the neck and wipes down easily with a good microfiber cloth. Does it look aged? Well yes and no, it has that dull played in look to some extent… read more but obviously not the checkering if it were nitro. Regardless I have to say that it is a top-quality instrument. I have been playing it back-to-back with my Gibson LP Standard (with Burstbucker Pro's). and I really cannot feel a massive difference in the instrument or hear a tremendous difference in the tone. Epiphone really nailed it with this model, and I love that Zzounds had it on sale and with the payment options, makes it easy for a working stiff to grab a great guitar and not break the bank. If you are looking for a great LP (Gibson or Epiphone) you cannot go wrong with this model.
