MXR M102 Dyna Comp Compressor

zZounds Gear Experts Say...
Add vintage flavor to your tone with this compressor pedal. With controls for sensitivity and output, the Dyna Comp can add smooth sustain or clicky texture.
Overview
The M102 Dyna Comp is a compressor that allows you to set an output level and the sensitivity at which it kicks in. This device can produce that percussive, clicky sound on a clean guitar -- the mainstay of '80s pop players -- or a mellow sustain for lead work. The M102 is designed to capture the sound and performance of the originals and does with an authentic vintage flavor. Rack spotters may have noticed several Dyna Comps in Dave Gilmour's monster system.

Things To Know
MXR M102 Dyna Comp Compressor

Hey everyone, this is Mason from zZounds, here to tell you a few things to know about the MXR Dyna Comp. This is an all-time classic pedal used by the likes of David Gilmour to help compress their guitar tone, get a better sound on leads, and it couldn't be easier to use. All you have are really two controls: You have one to set the output -- or the volume level that this pedal puts out -- and one for the sensitivity. And what that does is sort of set the threshold for when this pedal will engage and help even out your volume. So, for example, if you want to just smooth out some of the louder sounds and bring them down to a level comparable with everything else, you can turn it down. If you want to completely squash your sound and get that compressed, like funky sound, turn it all the way up, and all of your dynamics will be totally evened out. There's a lot of range on this, even though it is only two controls, but it's a really fun one to play around with and stack with other pedals to see what you can do. It's the MXR Dyna Comp -- check it out at zZounds.

This pedal is great. It's the exact thing I was looking for to complete my pedal board. Gives me the right amount of compression and Sustain. It gets a little noisy when using a single coil. But, not too bad. Overall I'm happy.
