Blackstar DEBUT 50R Guitar Combo Amplifier (50 Watts, 1x12")

The Blackstar Debut 50R is loaded with 2 channels, ISF tone control, power reduction, built-in reverb, and a MOSFET preamp to practice or perform with ease.

Debut 50R takes the Debut range to the next level as the perfect "plug-in-and-play" 50W pedal platform. Offering a simple an elegant all-analogue alternative to entry level digital modeling amplifiers, the Debut 50R focuses more on tone and usability rather than unwanted "bells and whistles".

The features have been carefully selected to include two foot-switchable channels, a patented ISF tone control, power reduction and built-in reverb - the Debut 50 covers all an aspiring guitarist's practice and gigging needs.

To deliver the natural sounding response of a valve amp, Blackstar's Northampton-based design team have chosen to implement a discrete MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) preamp. The overdrive characteristics of MOSFETs are similar to those of valves. The R&D team have gone beyond other manufacturer's MOSFET implementations to deliver a preamp design that is virtually indistinguishable from the chosen valve references.

Alright, this guitar combo amp Punches so far above it’s price point that it puts its nearest, even higher priced competing models, to shame. This amp has a 12 inch speaker, and is very lightweight. Weighs less than any combo amp I’ve ever had in a 1x12.It can run at watts or the full 50 watts. It can get very loud. With the volume at half, you will be heard over a hard hitting drummer. At 5 watts, it is extremely quiet, enough for playing in an apartment at Television volume. The gain/overdrive channel sounds very Marshallesque. Great for hard rock. And the clean is quite nice. The amp doesn’t come with a foot switch, but neither does its competitors at the 300 dollar price point. At $249.00 it’s in a class all by itself.

Sound
This amp sounds very much like a tube amp. Very much like a Marshall. The FX loop is great for adding modulation effects.

Features
This amp has an ISP control that can make it sound Ike different amps. The other controls are basic and not complicated. You may want to hit the front of the amp with a booster or overdrive/distortion if you require heavier tones than say Iron Maiden.

Ease of Use
This amp is intuitively easy to get the sounds you want. No cheesy, poor built in effects or tuner.

Quality
The paperwork that came with the amp says it’s warranted for three years if you register it with the company.

Value read more
The nearest competitor to this amp is probably the Orange Crush 35 RT. The Blackstar debut 50 is more powerful, and has a bigger speaker. The Orange has a little more saturated distortion, but isn’t as versatile. And they weigh about the same.

Manufacturer Support
I haven’t had to deal with the company’s customer service.

The Wow Factor
The cream colored Rolex and oxblood grill make for a visually appealing product.
