Behringer UB502 Eurorack 5 Input Mixer

No longer available at zZounds
Ultra low-noise design 5-input 2-bus mixer. Does NOT provide phantom power.

It may be small, but the UB502 features the same state-of-the-art Invisible Mic Preamp (IMP) and the same Ultra low-noise (ULN) design for highest possible headroom as its larger brethren. Its one mono channel plus 2 stereo channels with a 2-band EQ on the mono channel make it ideal for use with fixed audio installations as well as keyboards, samplers, and computer application. Hobby musicians and video makers will also find use for this ultra-compact mixer.

Every crucial development stage of the new UB Series has Uli Behringer's name on it - literally: from the design study to the circuitry layout to the mechanical makeup of the consoles. He has personally selected each and every individual component, all with the goal of squeezing the very most out of every single one of them. These consoles have been pushed as far as the technology permits to-date.

Does not provide phantom power.

Invisible Mic Preamp (IMP)
Five years in the making, the Invisible Mic Preamp (IMP) is a superior mic preamp that delivers crystal-clear audio with incredible reproduction of the slightest nuances. It matches or exceeds the performance of outboard mic preamps. You get extreme bandwidth of 5 Hz to 100 kHz coupled to unusually neutral, noise- and distortion-free circuitry. The Behringer IMP provides ultra-linear frequency response up to 100 kHz. The result of perfect design. Almost unmeasurable distortion for your signal integrity.

Ultra Low-Noise (ULN)
ULN stands for the Ultra low-noise design of our circuitry. It is based on extremely low-impedance components that keep thermal inherent noise and crosstalk at an absolute minimum. The result: your console is considerably less noisy and crosstalk between neighboring channels is virtually non-existent. The result of perfect design. Almost unmeasurable distortion for your signal integrity.

"Great value for the money."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Again, for the price paid, it's a non-issue. If it doesn't work out I'll buy a better unit. For the moment, though, it seems fine.

Sound
For the price paid...it sounds fine. No doubt there are better-sounding units out there, if one wants to pay the price for them. I bought this just to try it out, to see if it would solve a problem I had. Seems like it might work just fine.

Features
There aren't too many features you can expect (or fit) onto a three channel mixer. But I would have like to see phantom power. The EQ is two-band, instead of three (or more). Again, I'm sure there are better units out there for more money. For the price paid, this was ok.

Quality
Looks to be well made. Can't know for sure until some hours have been put on the unit. After all, the true test of quality is how it performs over time.

Value
I paid $30.00. Most manufacturers charge almost that much just for the power transformer that is used to power the thing.

Manufacturer Support
There should be an option of 'don't know' because I've never had to deal with their support people. What I have found is that, in the music industry in general, support is very poor. Which leads me to believe that many manufacturers bank on someone 'wanting something so badly, they'll put up with poor (or non-existent) customer support. So it would be nice to find out that read more these people are the exception.

The Wow Factor
No piece of musical equipment has 'sex appeal'. I suppose it looks good, though I'm more concerned in how it functions.

Musical Background:
Hobbyist

Musical Style:
Acoustic blues, ragtime. Some classic rock.
