Overview
Inspired by the historic "Rex" line of instruments offered by mail-order catalog in the 1930s, '40s and '50s, Jim Dandy models embody the charm and spirit of those early Gretsch flat-top guitars with superior playability and best-in-class-tone to boot.
Featuring a petite and portable parlor body shape and a short 24" scale length, the Jim Dandy Parlor punches above its weight with a distinct tonal clarity and throaty midrange for which parlor guitars are so beloved.
The X-braced body is crafted with select lightweight laminate tonewoods for an optimal balance of woody vintage tone and reliable durability, while the "C"-shape neck presents an inviting feel for hours of old-timey inspiration. Period-correct details such as a vintage-style pinned bridge, "G"-graphic pickguard, painted pinstripe purfling, 3-on-a-plate open-gear tuning machines and oversized dot fingerboard inlays combine for a nostalgic personality destined for any barnburner or jamboree.
Well suited for everything from bluesy porch pickin' to speakeasy swingin', the Gretsch Jim Dandy Parlor is a ramblin' companion for newbies and old-timers alike.

Things To Know
Gretsch G9500 Jim Dandy Parlor Flat Top Acoustic Guitar

by Alex Spiers
Hello, this is Alex from zZounds with some things to know about the Gretsch Jim Dandy. This is the G9500 Jim Dandy. We do have a broken string here, don't mind that. One thing I really like about this guitar is it has a flat top, it comes in at a low price point, and it's a very simple and to-the-point acoustic guitar. It's a parlor size too, and I feel like what's nice about all of those things is that it makes the guitar highly customizable. You'll see some people put in pickups, where they'll even put knobs on the top of the guitar to control different parameters of the pickup. This is a guitar that people often put pickups in, then plug into an amp and electrify, using effects. People often put rubber bridges on this guitar. I have, I've put a rubber bridge on the guitar, I've installed my own pickup, and I've put flatwound strings on this guitar. It's highly customizable at a lower price point, so you don't feel too bad about drilling into your guitar either.

I've had mine for a few months now. I ordered this because I've always wanted one of those old crackerjack catalog parlor guitars. Since Grestch doesn't really do a lot of low end stuff I figured they won't put out a piece of garbage. For $150 you can't go wrong. I use the guitar at home and while teaching my private lessons. Sure the finish isn't the best, but it plays and sounds amazing right out of the box. What I love most is the spot on intonation and its ability to stay in tune. Especially after a day's worth of lessons and constant in and out of the car all day. This thing stays in tune better than any other guitar I own...and I've got quite a few. I can't say it enough. For $150 you can't go wrong! Grestch totally bailed it with this one.
