Rode NT55 Omni/Cardioid Condenser Pencil Microphone

An upgrade to Rode's popular NT5, the NT55 includes exchangeable omni and cardioid capsules, plus a 3-position high-pass filter and -10/-20 dB pad switch.

The Rode NT55 small-diaphragm condenser microphone utilizes the 1/2" gold sputtered true condenser transducer used in the internationally renowned Rode NT5 microphone. The NT55 upgrades the NT5, adding switchable omni and cardioid capsules, a three-position 0/-10/-20 dB pad, and a three-position high-pass filter.

A Workhorse Small-Diaphragm Condenser

The NT55 is a low-noise, balanced output microphone, exhibiting a wide dynamic range and full frequency response. Although clearly relevant to instrument miking, the NT55 is extremely well-suited to any situation where a small, unobtrusive, but powerful microphone system is required.

Capture Acoustic Instruments

The NT55 is intended for Film, Television, Broadcast, Live Performance, Theatre, Surround and Environmental recording applications, or wherever your imagination takes you. These small-diaphragm condenser mics are ideal for capturing drum overheads, acoustic piano, room ensembles, acoustic guitar, violin, saxophone, and more.

Switchable Omni and Cardioid Capsules

The NT55 comes with two different condenser microphone heads. Try an ORTF or X/Y pair with the cardioid capsules attached, or try the omni capsule for an incredibly natural-sounding spot mic.

Three-Position Pad and High-Pass Filter

The NT55 circuit incorporates a three-position variable pad with 0 dB, -10 dB or -20 dB attenuation, and a three-position variable high-pass filter that enables you to step from a flat response to 75 or 150 read more Hz high-pass filter.

Rode NT55 Omni/Cardioid Condenser Mic

The Rode NT55 utilizes the 1/2" gold sputtered true condenser transducer used in the internationally renowned Rode NT5. The NT55 is a low-noise, balanced output microphone, exhibiting a wide dynamic range and full frequency response.

The NT55 circuit incorporates a three position variable PAD with 0dB, -10dB or 20dB attenuation, and a three position variable high-pass filter that enables you to step from a flat response to 75 or 150 Hz high pass filter.

The NT55 comes with two different condenser microphone heads to provide a wide variety of polar patterns. The NT55 is complemented with a diverse range of accessories to better facilitate positioning and attachment.

"I really liked the fact that by changing the capsules and moving the microphones around, I was able to get noticeably different tones with just two NT55s. All the while, the midrange stayed constant and clear... RODE has another winner in its stable." - Electronic Musician

"I was very impressed with the NT55. With its additional pad and filtering options I can see this microphone being a popular choice for both studio and stage applications as well as doing the hard yards on location recordings and foley sessions. Altogether, a sweet package from the RODE crew." - Audio Technology

"The NT55 is currently my microphone of choice for acoustic guitar and small percussion and I'm looking forward to trying it on other projects. You can buy cheaper small diaphragm microphones but if you want true professional performance at a giveaway price, the NT55 offers an excellent performance to price ratio so why compromise? The NT55 is perhaps the most highly specified small diaphragm microphone in its price range and its subjective performance is every bit as good as its paper specification. Having a choice of capsules really adds to its flexibility." - Sound on Sound

"I was completely blown away by the performance of this microphone. I called Sweetwater and said I need a mic that will pick up a 13 piece big band while still maintaining the live feel of the room with clarity and equal distribution of instrumentation. By using the NT55's omni-directional capsule, I accomplished exactly what I wanted ! (I am very picky) This mic went beyond my expectations. It is a great tool for anyone who films large events where you want to capture live instead of a studio sound." - Ryan Sutton, USA (Customer Review)

I use this small diaphragm condenser on acoustic guitar and piano and it sounds great. It has a smooth frequency response that give you a nice high end without sounding harsh. (It also works surprisingly well as an on-camera mic.)The extra switches (-db and hi-pass) really make this mic excellent for a number of uses (well worth the upgrade from the Rode NT5, IMO). The only thing keeping this mic from 5 stars is that you have to physically switch out the mic head to switch from cardioid to omni, and I'm the kind of guy who loses tiny peripherals.
