"Absolutely glorious cleans and edge of breakup. Killer tweed overdrive"

Let me start by strongly emphasizing my firm belief this 10" version is the sleeper of the California Tweed line and shouldn't be overlooked simply because of speaker size. The low end fills in when increasing the gain on tweed amps, sometimes to the point of sounding boomy or too bass heavy. That is not the case here. The smaller cabinet and 10" speaker balance the low end impressively well when driven all while maintaining a very large soundscape when played clean. It impressively fills a room and in no way sounds boxy. The cleans are nothing short of glorious. They are warm but chimey and have a nice up front attack that isn't ice pickey or hard to control. There is a wonderful subtle sag that makes digging into a note addicting. Edge of breakup is very touch sensitive and full of tones when using your guitar's volume know and a simple boost pedal to further push the front end. Overdrive can get you into the growly but chimey tones reminiscent of Bassman circuits by turning up the gain and rolling the bass down low. No, it doesn't sound exactly like a Bassman but its not trying to. I just want to emphasize the unique chimey and bell like growl you can get out of this amp, especially with P90s or broadcaster bridge pickups. The spring reverb sounds fantastic but can get overwhelming fast. I do wish the reverb was setup with a mix and dwell as it can overwhelm the dry signal and get washy and almost ambient-esque at higher levels. That may be good for you, it may be bad. All read more personal taste. Regardless, low reverb levels sound great for any type of americana music. The attenuation is clever. Instead of it being a pure attenuator it uses different combinations of valves to reduce power, but it also slightly changes the tonal characteristics. At 1 and 20 watts it has a bit more attack to the notes. 10 watts has a bit more sag/compression and a touch less chime. All three settings can get you to 100db and cover a drummer. The master volume in correlation with the attenuator means you can get "caving in" tweed sounds at nighttime apartment levels. Cranking the master in 20 watts with input gain around noon can get you in blackface territory with some EQ changes. Speaking of EQ there is a wiiiide range of sounds in each EQ band. Do not be afraid to use them to their extremes. There are a ton of tones hidden in there. Miscellaneous: has an effects loop. Weighs 28 pounds. Takes up a very small amount of space on cramped stages. Looks beautiful. Overall, I am super impressed and truly enjoy playing through this amp. There is a wide array of inspiring tones from clean to rock n' roll to even rock. This will cover every corner of americana music with ease and does so with the volume flexibility to match any situation and has the portability to make any bad back happy. I have been gigging this amp weekly for over a year and haven't had a single reliability issue. I think Mesa Boogie knocked it out of the park with this one.
