Overview
Artcore AXD guitars successfully deliver heavy tones without the heavy weight. These amazingly affordable instruments feature a set-neck design with a semi-hollow body. They are truly built to rock. The AXD81 features an all maple body and a flamed maple top for outstanding look and tone. The AXD81's neck is 3-piece, composed of maple and mahogany. This model has the following features: a bound rosewood fingerboard, 22 large frets, an Ibanez ART1 bridge, ACH1/2 humbucking pickups, and chrome hardware.
When Artcore guitars debuted in summer 2002, they turned the music industry upside down. No longer were full and semi-acoustic guitars just big expensive jazz boxes for jazz players' even some of their competitors bought them (you just can't make this stuff up). With Artcore guitars you get an amazingly affordable price plus the quality and tone you expect from Ibanez, the guitar company with over four decades of experience making full and semi-acoustic guitars.

"A Sweet Little Player"
This is a GREAT guitar for the money. Crosses over for many styles of music. Could easily use this as my main guitar.
Sound
The stock humbuckers are fine for most applications. Reasonably good separation between the tone of the bridge and neck. Can do blues and rock pretty well. I wanted a bit more unique sound so I put Seymour Duncan Jazz in the neck and JB in the bridge and WOW... now it's a real crowd-pleaser. More Strat-like...very clear and rich.
Features
It's a very basic 2-pickup guitar with 1 tone / 1 vol and 1 3-way toggle. Having a second set of Vol / Tone controls would help with the range. When I swapped the PUPs I added a coil tap.
Ease of Use
Plays GREAT!! That's why I bought it. Feels very comfortable. The neck is great. Frets are well-finished so they never snag your fingers. Controls are well-placed too. It's very light so you can play for hours standing, with no neck or shoulder fatigue.
Quality
Was VERY pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the workmanship. The binding in the f-hole is perfect. Everything was very precise and well-finished.
Value
HUGE value for the dollar. At $400 it was a steal. Well worth it.
Manufacturer Support
Never needed it.
The Wow Factor
I like the color and finish. It's a handsome axe with nice touches like the inlaid neck and headstock shape / logo. Really a classy look.
