"Excellent Practice Amp!"
Good quality, good sound, good features, good price! As a practice amp it certainly delivers. In addition, this amp should have blown up on me, but didn't! Read on...I was given a used one several years ago, and had put it in storage until recently. When I finally turned it on the other night, it first crackled, then it popped (I saw the flash of a spark through the front vents), and then it just hummed! I figured that it had blown a filter cap, and so proceeded to remove the amp chassis from the enclosure. Checking it with a flashlight, I saw no evidence of anything blowing up, the fuse was still good, and none of the caps were bulging or leaking. I then tilted the chassis and a screw clip came tumbling out from underneath the PC board! Whoever had removed the chassis at some point in the past had obviously lost one of the screw clips, and just proceeded to put it back together without making sure it hadn't fallen into the guts! When I turned it on, the clip had apparently come into contact with a trace or solder point under the PC board, causing the flash, pop, and hum! I removed the clip, and turned the amp on, expecting the worse. To my surprise, it came back on with no apparent damage! I put it all back together, plugged my bass in, turned it on, and... it played perfectly! Either I got lucky, or this is a bit of a testimony to the durability of the amp's design!
