Rode NTG1 Shotgun Condenser Microphone

A fundamental shotgun mic, the Rode NTG1 offers the professionally accurate and pure sound recording required by industry standards.

The RODE NTG-1 is a lightweight condenser shotgun microphone, specifically designed for professional applications within the film, video, television, voiceover and ENG industries.

The NTG-1 provides an electronically balanced output stage and operates on 48 V to the P48 standard. The NTG-1 offers wide bandwidth and a controlled polar response coupled with low noise SMT electronics. The NTG-1 is extremely lightweight making it ideal for mounting directly to video cameras (with optional accessories) or a Boom pole.

The NTG-1 comes complete with mount and windshield. The supplied windscreen effectively suppresses wind noise when recording outdoors in moderate conditions. Optional accessories are available for more demanding applications.

Features:

- Broadcast sound quality
- Low noise circuitry
- Condenser transducer
- Rugged metal construction
- Low weight: 105 grams approx. (3 oz.)
- Low handling noise
- Supplied with stand mount, zip pouch and windshield
- Designed & manufactured in Australia
- Full 2 year guarantee

- Operation power: The NTG-1 is designed to operate from standard P48 phantom power. The NTG-1 will operate between 44 V to 52 V applied with positive polarity to pin 2 and pin 3 via the output XLR connector.
- Operation output impedance: The NTG-1 will operate satisfactorily into a load impedance as low as 1 kilohm. If a load below this is used, the output signal level will be reduced. The NTG-1s output is balanced between pin 2 (hot), pin 3 (cold) and pin 1 is ground.

If this were lost or stolen I might not replace it. I love having it and trying it for things, but I can't say that I really need it to do good recording or live sound. But no regrets...

Sound
This is a very honest, nuetral-sounding mic. I've used it as a live drummer's vocal mic in a rock band, as a distant stage mic for live theater recording, and as a mono drum overhead mic live. I expected it to be a special-purpose, odd sort of mic, but it sounds at least good on everything so far.

Features
Lo-cut does what it should, windscreen is as-advertised (won't help much in a serious windstorm).

Ease of Use
Not very cranky at all. If you just think "shotgun", you won't try it on other things, but you should.

Quality
This is very sturdy for such a light mic. I have stopped treating it like a condensor.

Value
I have no other shotgun mic experience (shotguns are VERY pricey). This mic is at or near the entry point for shotguns. I do not regret the purchase, and do not lust after more expensive shotguns.

Manufacturer Support
i have dealt with Rode about a different mic (NT1A) that failed myteriously just after the warranty period. The factory didn't just fix it, they replaced it with a new mic. that is support in capitals.

The Wow Factor
I had to get a read more ribbon(or three), I had to get a shotgun. It is a kind of exotic little thing to have. It really had no practical appeal, but I ocassionaly had wondered, "would a good shotgun work for this?" There was only one way to scratch that itch.
