Overview
The SE Silver Sky Maple is a familiar iteration of the original Silver Sky model that was first introduced with John Mayer in 2018. This workhorse guitar provides ample tone and playability in three distinct colors, delivering looks, feel, and sound. The PRS SE Silver Sky Maple starts with a poplar body, bolt-on maple neck, and maple fretboard with PRS trademark bird inlays. The 22-fret, 25.5" scale length neck features the original 635JM carve and an 8.5" fretboard radius, so the PRS SE Silver Sky will feel right at home. Plug it in, and the three single-coil 635JM "S" pickups will bark and sing.
This guitar is anchored by a two-point steel tremolo, synthetic bone nut, and vintage-style tuners. Other design features include the PRS Silver Sky inverted headstock shape and the PRS double-acting truss rod (accessible from the front of the headstock for ease of use). Ships with PRS Classic 10-46 strings and gig bag.

"Great Value In An S-Type Model"

Starting from scratch the packaging is substantial and the guitar ships enclosed in it's very well padded gig bag. These may seem like small things but the attention to this detail is impressive since it assures the guitar stands a far better chance of arrive undamaged.....and it did. It also tends to indicate their attention to other details in the design and construction process. With the exception of a few fret ends that will need some attention otherwise the guitar was of the quality expected out of PRS and Cor-Tek it's builder. I've purchased a number of models (PRS and G&L) built by Cor-Tek and have never been disappointed in their overall quality and attention to detail. I'm always confident when ordering one online sight unseen. The Silver Sky I bought is Stone Blue, both attractive and different from what I more typically buy and weighs just 7.2 lbs Since I was buying it to replace a Strat I'd traded for an amp I wanted a direct comparison of the Silver Sky to it's closest Fender models a Player and Player II which I was able to do locally. I played each for quite awhile and came away feeling there was nothing about the Silver Sky that I didn't like just a little more. The neck profile is more similar to the chunkier early 60s Oval "C" on the Strat I'd traded and the satin finish on the neck nice as well. It has the right "grip" even for a thumb up player like me. The overall setup was good needing only to lower the saddles to my preferred string height. The neck relief…

was proper and the fret work was level and well polished. Most who compare these models to Fenders will notice a difference in the sound of the pickups. They are bolder and more full sounding with stronger mids. Less like the '50s vintage pickups used in many Fender and Squier models and more like '60s vintage pickups. Since I'm often playing through a Deluxe Reverb I enjoy the overall "bolder" tonality more. The electronics and controls work well and feel very smooth. Nice attention to detail here as well. I also like having a tone control for the bridge pickup. It makes it far more usable and also impacts position two positively. The noise floor of these pickups in positions one, three, and five is actually quite low which I attribute somewhat to the shielding but more so to the pickup design and build itself.I'll just finish by saying that anyone interested in buying a Strat or Strat style guitar should consider a Silver Sky as well. It's a very worthy competitor to the Fender Strats in it's price range especially when one also considers the high quality padded gig bag PRS includes. And as usual zZounds sales support, order processing, and fast shipping are top shelf and always appreciated. I have bought from them numerous times and have never been disappointed in any way. They have over time become my dealer of choice whenever I buy new. Thank you rep Daniel and zZounds.
