"This model has been the most stable, pleasure-to-play instrument I've ever had. I've put it through the paces and it's made me proud to have my name on it." - Dustie Waring (Between the Buried and Me)

The progressive metal band Between the Buried and Me has a sound that is both heavy and melodic, lush and menacing. It is this demand for versatility without sacrifice that led to the development of guitarist Dustie Waring's PRS Signature model: the DW CE24 "Floyd." This model starts with the maple top with a satin Black Top finish, mahogany back, PRS CE bolt-on platform and includes a satin-finished maple neck, maple fretboard, a slightly modified Pattern Thin neck carve (Waring's carve is slightly thinner front to back) and a Floyd Rose tremolo system.

With satin black hardware, the pickups and electronics are also unique to Waring's signature axe. The pickups are Waring's signature Mojotone "DW Tomahawk" pickups. Made with a blend of Ceramic and Alnico magnets and a special winding technique, DW Tomahawks have plenty of output and big bottom end while remaining articulate and clear - a unique quality for high-gain pickups. Paired with a volume and tone control and a 5-way Blade Pickup Selector that have been shifted slightly to allow plenty of room to work the tremolo, the DW CE24 "Floyd" is comfortable, fun and inspiring to play. Comes in a premium PRS gig bag.

First off, just have to say this was my first purchase from zZounds, and it went perfect. They were the only place online to have this and I found it after looking for months. The shipping was fast, product was well packaged. I like their return policy, although I will not use it on this purchase. Second, this guitar is my dream guitar. It sounds so good and is so easy to play while looking amazing. Mine is the black top. They all look good though. The appearance of the dark black top and black bird inlays against the lighter fretboard and the solid wood back is a thing of beauty. I have not had to change the strings yet, and I've never done that on a Floyd Rose, but there are tons of videos on how to do it, and the trade off for it being in tune all the time will be worth it. This is the first guitar I've owned that doesn't have any fret buzz. If there is a downside to this guitar, it's that the black finish seems to scratch with the pick, but you can't see it unless you are seeing it with the light reflecting perfectly and you're looking for it within an arm's length away. To be precise, the matte finish scratches, but the paint doesn't. Just seeing it across the room, you can't see the scratches. But would have been better if the finish was more durable. This is a guitar I plan on having basically forever, so I'm sure it will develop scratches and other types of "character" and I'll be ok with that. I didn't know who Dustie Waring was before seeing the guitar, but I saw some read more of his interviews (seems like a talented, thoughtful dude) and he describes this guitar as a "depedable workhorse" which I suspect it will be. This is my first PRS guitar and it's so good, it could be my last, but I am so impressed it probably won't be.

Sound
Sound quality is excellent. Has excellent intonation. Pickups seem very versatile.

Features
I like the idea of a Floyd Rose. I like the locking tuners. I love the woods used. I like the color scheme. I like that the volume and tone knobs are off to the side a bit more, as I find myself hitting them accidentally less frequently than my other guitars. I like the 5 way switch to give me any combo I want out of the pickups.

Ease of Use
All that I can say, is the neck feels perfect for me and it seems to have a quality that makes it easy to play. Necks are a personal thing, so maybe this doesn't work for everyone, but I like it. I have an Ibanez with a Wizard III neck, and this isn't as thin as that, but I think I like the size and shape of this one more, and I love that wizard neck, but this one is more comfortable and easy to play for me. The Satin finish is comfortable to play on. The weight seems nice, with it being a bit on the lighter side.

Quality
This seems like a guitar made to extremely high quality standards which isn't surprising given PRS' reputation for that. How do you describe the feeling of "quality?" I don't know, but it just feels like that.

Value
Maybe not for some but for me it's a bit on the pricier side. But I suppose for a signature guitar from PRS, and compared to other more expensive PRS's with their feature set, this one seems appropriately priced. For some, especially those that don't like a floyd rose, this will not be as good of a deal as the regular CEs. If you want a CE with a tremolo bar, this is good. I think one of the appealing things to me about this guitar was that in a way it was actually unique in PRS' sea of flashy, bright, shiny guitars. The black color and the matte finish appeal to me more, and I just thought it looked awesome. The fact that it scratches easier makes me think a resale would be harder, but they seems to be in high demand so who knows.

Manufacturer Support
Have not had to deal with PRS yet.

The Wow Factor
This is my dream guitar in the sound, feel and looks of it. It's more guitar than I deserve right now compared to my skill set, but it makes me want to play more and get better at guitar just so I can rock this beautiful instrument.
