Neumann NDH 30 Open-Back Studio Headphones

zZounds Gear Experts Say...
Trust Neumann with your ears! NDH 30 open-back studio headphones deliver incredible spatial resolution with high detail across the frequency spectrum.

The Portable Sound Reference

The Neumann NDH 30 is a circumaural, open-back headphone featuring outstanding detail resolution and high-precision stereo imaging with razor-sharp localization. Its linear soundstage and superior transient response make it the recommended tool for demanding applications such as mixing and mastering.

Perfect Monitoring in Neumann Quality - Everywhere

The NDH 30 was inspired by the reference sound of a Neumann studio monitor setup, perfectly calibrated via the Neumann MA 1, available on-the-go in the form of an easily transportable headphone. At the same time, the NDH 30 forms its own sound reference in terms of headphone reproduction, which has become a key to success with the consumer. Its superior sound characteristics make the NDH 30 the first choice for mixing and mastering. Thanks to its high long-term comfort, it is just as excellently suited for high-precision editing.

Its high-quality construction of spring steel and aluminum as well as its pleasant handling properties are largely the same as those of the NDH 20. However, the NDH 30 is an open-back headphone, which means that its dynamic 38 mm transducers work as acoustic dipoles. This allows their highly refined sound characteristics to unfold optimally: extremely fast transient response, dry bass, uncolored mids and transparent highs. In other words, the NDH 30 has no sound coloration, but reproduces the signal 1:1.

Uncompromising Precision

The NDH 30 owes its superior read more linearity, among other things, to frequency-selective absorbers that eliminate the overemphasis in the high frequencies that leads to incorrect mixing decisions in many other headphones. For example, the NDH 30 will accurately reveal whether a voice sounds muffled or needs a de-esser. The spatial resolution is impressive. The NDH 30 allows razor-sharp localization in the stereo panorama and makes the depth of the mix evident. To minimize channel crosstalk, the NDH 30 is supplied with a high-quality cable that is internally balanced.

Part of a Successful Family

With its high linearity and detail resolution, the NDH 30 is perfectly compatible with a loudspeaker system that has been optimally calibrated using Neumann Automatic Monitor Alignment. Mixes begun at home or on the road using the NDH 30 can be seamlessly continued in the studio using KH-Line loudspeakers - and vice versa. At the same time, the NDH 30 is recommended as a headphone sound reference; headphones, after all, have long become the dominant playback system among consumers. The NDH 30 is ideal for checking headphone compatibility and creating binaural mixes of immersive content (including VR and gaming). As consistency and reliability are essential in mixing and mastering, the NDH 30 is manufactured to extremely tight tolerances so each headphone sounds exactly the same.

I've used mostly $150 to $300 closed back cans for tracking and monitoring or just listening for enjoyment. I've had open backed cans before, but wasn't impressed enough to use them much. I sold the last pair to a video production friend. These are without a doubt, the best headphones I've owned. I use Presonus Septre S8 monitors with the T10 sub in my studio. When I switch between the NDH 30s and the my monitors, the spectral balance is nearly exactly the same, less the extended low end that the sub produces. With the sub bypassed, the NDH 30s are a bit more full in the low end than the S8s alone. This may be more of a statement about my room and the way my monitors are adjusted, but it's uncanny how close these cans are to what I'm used to from my monitors. At first they seemed a little lacking in the top end, but I think I was expecting them to be somewhat hyped, like so many headphones. I find myself wanting to listen to them just for the intimacy headphones give. If you have a small head, you might find these a bit big, but I like that they give my ears plenty of room. The construction seems to be bomber with little plastic.P.S. It's BS that I have to give star ratings that simply don't apply. I have no idea what the support is like. I have a couple Neumann mics and have never needed manufacturer support, so how am I supposed to rate it? Ease of use, what the eff, they're headphones, you plug them in and put them on your head. Wow factor - this is so subjective to be useless. read more Value is based on how much money you make or have in your bank account. I'm giving these categories five stars only because I have to give them star ratings to do a review and don't what else I should do. I protest having to rate each of these categories.
