Neumann MT 48 U 4x8 USB-C and Dante Audio Interface

zZounds Gear Experts Say...
A desktop interface worthy of the Neumann name, the MT 48 U packs a pair of top-notch preamps, high-end AD/DA, and state-of-the-art built-in DSP effects.
Overview
The Neumann MT 48 U brings Neumann quality to the digital workflow. It is the first audio interface in its class that is able to capture the full dynamic range of Neumann microphones and is optimally matched to the KH line of studio monitors and Neumann headphones. The result is an ideal signal chain without any bottlenecks: uncompromising sound quality from the microphone diaphragm to your ear.
Swiss Precision Inside
The MT 48 was developed in close cooperation with the Swiss manufacturer Merging Technologies, whose high-precision AD converters offer a staggering dynamic range of 136 dB. This gives the MT 48 four times the resolution of comparable audio interfaces.
The MT 48 comes fully equipped for the reference-class personal studio: two extremely low-noise mic/line preamps with up to 78 dB gain, two line/instrument inputs, four monitor/line outputs and two superb headphone outputs, each with state-of-the-art AD/DA converters. The MT 48's connectivity may be expanded via ADAT / S/PDIF and AES67; a MIDI interface is also integrated. Four separate monitor mixes can be controlled directly on the unit via touchscreen. On-board processing includes a fully parametric 4-band EQ and a 3-way dynamics processor (gate/compressor/limiter) per channel as well as a high-quality reverb, so musicians get inspiring sound for top performances. And there is still plenty of DSP power for future developments.
Record With or Without Effects. Or Both!
The MT 48 is an audio interface and digital… read more mixing desk in one. You can use its DSP processing for monitoring only, or you can print effects while recording. Or both at the same time! Thanks to the unique Dual Output Technology, wet and dry signals can be recorded simultaneously via separate driver channels. So, if necessary, you can fall back on an unprocessed backup.
A New User Experience
Despite its enormous scope of features, the MT 48 always remains easy to operate. All settings can be made on the device itself via the built-in touchscreen. The perfect monitor mix is just a touch away! Simply use your fingers to adjust pan pots, channel faders and much more, without having to switch to a mixer software on your computer. The MT 48 can even be operated stand-alone as a mixing console. This also ensures that the MT 48 remains fully configurable in class compliant operation, which is possible on macOS as well as iPad/iPhoneOS. On PC, installation of the MT 48 Toolkit software is mandatory; on Mac, Toolkit installation is recommended for added functionality.
The MT 48 leaves nothing to be desired: audio quality at the highest level, built-in DSP processing, comprehensive expandability, and convenient operation via touchscreen. The MT 48 is the missing link in the Neumann universe, connecting microphones, loudspeakers and headphones to create the perfect studio.
Monitor Mission for Mastering and Mixing Immersive Audio
Thanks to its touchscreen user interface, the MT 48 can be configured for various application scenarios using dedicated "Missions". The Monitor Mission transforms the MT 48 into a comprehensively equipped, highly flexible, state-of-the-art monitor controller. In addition to mono and stereo setups, any surround and immersive formats can be configured. On board are precise trim and delay functions to compensate for level and time-of-arrival differences, as well as EQs with up to 24 bands per output channel for room adjustment. Flexible bass management and downmix are also part of the Monitor Mission.
In use, speaker sets and headphone cues can be conveniently managed, speakers can be muted or monitored solo, and you can switch between mono, stereo and surround or immersive formats. The Monitor Mission is the ideal tool for mixing and mastering with the flexibility required today to ensure perfect sound for every medium and every playback device.
NEW: The MT 48 Becomes Dante Ready
While the MT 48 has always supported the open standard RAVENNA/AES67 for networked audio, some users requested compatibility with the Dante protocol, developed and overseen by Audinate. Due to its ease of use and high compatibility, Dante is widely used in the live and installation sector.
Starting in Q4/2024, the MT 48 will ship Dante Ready(TM) (indicated by a sticker on the packaging). Ex factory, the MT 48 continues to be delivered with the RAVENNA/AES67 firmware preinstalled. For Dante operation, Neumann provides an alternative Dante firmware free of charge. In addition, an 8x8 or 64x64 I/O Dante channel license is required, which must be purchased from Audinate. This ensures there are no additional costs for users who do not require Dante.
- New use cases e.g. in Live and installation markets
- MT 48 can become a hub and mixer in Dante networks

"Great Product, but expensive and not necessarily needed for all"

Not a beginner purchase, But you get what you pay for. AMAZING, but sterile sounding pre amps. I personally love how the built in EQ and compression makes tracking Vocals sound and how smooth it feels when punching in, but if you already have a bunch of outboard gear you probably wouldn’t find much use for those features. One underrated feature is the Sound quality in which your speakers upgrade. I was not expecting my speaker to sound better because of this equipment, but it definitely did. The interface itself is very responsive and easy to navigate, feels expensive. I would have liked there to have been more plugins available for a product this expensive, but overall a happy customer. Wouldn’t recommend for everybody though. In reality though most people would get similar results out of a product about half the price. What’s that extra 10% worth to you?
