zZounds Gear Experts Say...
X neck, 3pc maple neck, basswood body

The ICX Iceman is a more modern and compact version of the Ibanez classic Iceman style rock and roll axe. There's no mistaking the Iceman for any other guitar. Definitely not in sight and certainly not in sound. Nothing says or plays rock and roll like the Iceman.

Features
X neck - The X features the classic 24.75 in. neck, which lends itself to strong rhythm and leads. The bolt on All Access neck joint allows easy access to the upper frets typically associated with set-in and neck thru joints.

3pc. Maple Neck Material

Basswood Body - Basswood is a comparatively lightweight wood, which makes it very comfortable for extended playing. With a good balance of highs and lows, basswood is right in between alder and mahogany in sound character.

I don't think I'll be looking for another axe for a while...I really looked around a lot before making this purchase, and was tempted by a couple of other makes, but being a long time Ibanez lover and trying the Iceman, pushed me over the top. It's a smooth player, very comfortable and I know we look great onstage, I've seen the pics!

Sound
The sound of the Iceman is entirely different when you switch between pickup positions and the tone knob increases that difference a lot. It is very responsive, the sound round and yet capable of cutting right through. You can be very subtle with this guitar, or really brash! I use it for recording a lot, it's nice and quiet, stays in tune really well. Like most Ibanez guitars, it has a 'sweet' sound, which is to me what makes it an Ibanez; it doesn't sound like any other brand. When I do head for the stage, it's a comfortable to handle. I play it through a volume pedal, distortion unit (Boss HM2) and a Boss DD20 Giga Delay.

Features
Ibanez quality is always top notch, I've owned a 1984 Roadstar 2 since new, and never ever had one problem. I expect to get the same mileage out of the Iceman too. The strap location pin is a bit weird, and means you have to often twist the strap to get it the right way round. It stays on well though (using strap locks). The neck is soooooo smooth and really well finished, as are the frets. The basswood body is a nice weight, not too heavy, not read more too light to make it feel cheap. It feels very substantial.

Quality
It's Ibanez! It's really well made, really tough feeling, it would be really hard to break this guitar (not that you'd want to) Super, all over. A lovely product. The finish was flawless, fit superb, just a fine piece of art.

Value
Super value for the money. You have a guitar that looks and sounds like it cost $1,000.00, for half or less than half that.

Manufacturer Support
Never had to deal with Ibanez other than paying them for the guitar...and they deserve every penny! I think that some upgrades could be accomplished easily, like different pickups, maybe Sperzel tuners, but seeing as it's a fixed bridge, it might be redundant.

The Wow Factor
The finish is beatiful, from top to well shaped bottom (it's really sexy, and kinda Art Deco too) I love the off white perfing. The black and chrome really appealed to me too, and I love the headstock being the same colour...it really has a slightly retro look, but so unique.
