What's special about this item?

Feature: What it does:
25.5-inch scale Increases string tension for tighter bottom end
Mahogany body Rich, warm, focused sound; added sustain
Mahogany neck Great sustain, strength, and warm tone
Tune-o-matic bridge Adjustable action and precise intonation

A collaboration between the design team at Hagstrom and the Swedish band Ghost, the Hagstrom Fantomen transports their legendary playability and technical excellence into a new, edgier realm. Hagstrom started with an elegantly asymmetrical solid-mahogany body and joined a mahogany neck using the classic mortise-and-tenon neck joint system. Of course, since it's a Hagstrom, the Fantomen uses the H-Expander truss rod and Resinator fingerboard, providing the ultimate in playing surface stability and optimal tonal enhancement. Together, these components create an incredibly stable, resonant and responsive sonic foundation.

Sharp attack and more sustain

With a relatively thin 1" (3.5cm) body, the Fantomen is beautifully balanced and surprisingly lightweight. A 25.5" (648mm) scale provides a slightly sharper attack and more sustain than classic 24.75" scale guitars. A neck joint design that provides total, unrestricted access to all 22 frets will meet the needs of even the most virtuosic player.

Immense expressive range

Hagstrom's goal was to equip the Fantomen with electronics that would allow for a varied tonal palette ranging from classic, vintage colors to screaming metallic brilliance. Hagstrom worked with Swedish pickup guru Johan Lundgren, designer of pickups used by artists such as Meshuggah's Martin Hagstrom (no relation!). Lundgren recommended two different humbucker designs: No. 2 in the neck position and No. 5 in the bridge position. The result covers an read more immense expressive range; from smooth, warm tones to the kind of attack and intense dynamic output that would satisfy the demands of even the most extreme musical styles. Each pickup can be split to single-coil mode by means of push/pull switches incorporated into the tone controls for even more sonic flexibility. This guitar speaks with many distinct voices.

I'm someone who usually shy's away from lesser known guitar brands, for better or worse. But as a diehard Ghost fan I had to pick one of these up, if for no other reason than to have it as a collector's item.I'm happy to say I'm pleasantly surprised how well this guitar plays and feels. It was set up very well, has great playability, and the neck feels great. It's missing locking tuners but the tuners it has do seem sturdy and reliable. If you are looking to play high gain metal music, you probably won't love the pickups. They are not high output. However they do have a really nice and smooth character to them that sounds really cool. The ability to split coil let's you get some really cool tones, especially cleans. For what the pickups were built to do, they do it very very well. The guitar doesn't come with a gig bag, which is really annoying. I don't like the idea of guitars being thrown around by FedEx employees without at least a little bit of protection. The guitar was in mint condition with no damage, but still. Gig bags are pretty cheap, and it would at least be good if we had the option to pay an extra $30 for one or whatever. For a guitar in this price range, I don't think it's too much to ask to include one. zZounds was great as usual. They shipped it out quick and the process was as painless as ever. I wish I could say the same for FedEx. zZounds, PLEASE consider not using FedEx anymore. This is the third time I have ordered something and FedEx has screwed up delivery, read more causing a delay in me receiving the package. Not your fault, but seriously FedEx absolutely sucks.
