Guild S-300 Deluxe Solidbody Electric Guitar
Updated August 25, 2026 08:22 by Justin LaForte
Hey everybody, this is Justin at zZounds and these are some things to know about the Guild S300 Deluxe guitar. This is a really cool guitar. They actually designed and released this in 1977, but this is making a comeback in this brand new version right now. Some cool things to know about it are that it has a mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard. It's got these cool block inlays as well.

But really of note is this phase switch right here. And that activates a phase that really accentuates kind of your middle pickup position as well as your neck and treble too when it's engaged. So you can get these kind of out-of-phase sounds that are really great. Opens up a lot more tonal options for you. So it is really worth experimenting and hearing that in action. And that's just a couple really cool things to know about the Guild S300 Deluxe.

There should have been a gig bag or case. Now with that out of the way, I love this guitar. I took it from a hot delivery truck into my air conditioned home, opened up the well packed box, threw on a strap and plugged it in. The guitar was shipped with the tension reduced, as it should be. I tuned it up and just played. It’s very rare for me to buy a new guitar and immediately fall in love with the pickups. These sound fantastic, in and out of phase. They sounded fantastic straight into my Bad Cat Lynx and my Blackheart Handsome Devil. It handled all my dirt and fuzz pedals very well. I couldn’t get a sound I didn’t like out of it. The guitar is on the light side and is easy on the shoulder and back. These neck isn’t slim or chunky, and is very comfortable to play. No fret sprout, no dead frets. Action was good and playable and there is no fret buzz. After a good amount of playing to stretch the strings, the tuning stability is fantastic. Intonation was a bit off on the low E (easily fixed), but all the others strings were dead on. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. It’s the first Guild I’ve owned, but probably won’t be the last.
