ESP may be known for their sleek, slim designs, but with the EC-1000T CTM, they've taken a new direction. Cut in the familiar single-cutaway Eclipse shape, this model boasts a thicker body that's more akin to classic models. The result is a fuller sound and the feel of a classic instrument with modern components.

Built Thick and Solid

This incarnation of the Eclipse is set apart by its body shape. Though featuring a single cutaway like all Eclipses, the EC-1000T has a fuller body than the typical models. This not only gives it the "traditional" moniker but makes for a more robust sound. You can hear it acoustically with the guitar's natural resonance, but the solid construction really shines with the guitar played through an overdriven amp. The mahogany body offers a warm tonality and is carved at the guitar's surface for an elegant look and smooth feel.

Active Pickups Bring the Roar

ESP chose the time-honored combo of an EMG 81 pickup in the bridge and an EMG 60 in the neck for the EC-1000T. These active humbuckers are renowned not only for their high output, but also for their clarity. On clean phrases, the EMG 60 shines, delivering a rounded and clear tone to single notes and making for fat, full-sounding chords. The EMG 81 excels at high gain sounds -- it's the ideal pickup for chugging metal rhythms and solos that pierce through the mix. Both pickups are powered by a 9-volt battery and the guitar's individual volume and master tone controls give you read more plenty of flexibility to tweak your sound.

Neck and Hardware

The EC-1000T's neck is also a nod to classic instruments. With 22 frets, the dense mahogany neck is topped by an ebony fretboard. Play a few licks on it, however, and you'll see that this neck is carved in a modern thin-U shape that's begging for fast shred runs. Keeping you in tune through the wildest bends are a Tonepros locking Tune-O-Matic bridge and tailpiece and ESP locking tuners.

ESP LTD EC-1000T CTM Electric Guitar

The ESP LTD EC-1000T CTM Traditional features the classic single-cutaway mahogany body with a traditional body shape, slighty thicker than a standard EC-1000. With binding on the top and back of the body and gold hardware, the EC1000T CTM looks as good as it sounds. EMG Active 81/60 humbuckers produce that massive tone they're known for, giving huge rhythm crunch and searing lead tone to cut through the mix. The set mahogany neck allows for great sustain and features a thin U neck contour for a very comfortable and fast feel.

"Great guitar"
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
First off, I purchased at Christmas time out of coincidence more than anything, but took advantage of holiday pricing. I found the EC000T-CTM cheaper at Guitar Center so I sent the web information to Zzounds and within one hour I had a response that they would not only match but they beat the Guitar Center price, with free shipping. That's a great way to make a new customer happy. Now about the guitar; it is beautiful and plays well. But it is not perfect. A few of the notable flaws on mine are the plastic housing around the neck pickup (appears damaged or flawed, likely before assembly), the fingerboard (it is more of a dark rosewood than true ebony) and the low E string (a lot of fret buzz, but correctable). Otherwise, it looks and sounds fantastic. It definitely cured my itch for a much more expensive Gibson Les Paul...for now. The EMGs are outstanding, with great sustain and harmonics. I play through a Marshall JCM2000 DSL100 and found that on the highest gain settings these pups really scream, but roll of the gain to about 4 and you get a real thick, Gibson-like crunch. The cleans are wonderful, not as crisp as my single coil Strat but very close. Overall I am very pleased and excited to add this guitar to my collection, and the service from Zzounds has been great so far.
