I am really impressed with this amp. For the first few months I planned on getting rid of them. Now I will never part with them. They have a sound all of their own. The sounds that I get with these are incredible. I have one on each side of a Marshall, I use them for my clean/blues sound. I also use them to back up my Marshall for a unique drive sound that is incredible. Two little stomp boxes and thats it.
Sound
This amp has a sound all of its own. It has a vintage, blues, overdrive sound that sends shivvers down my spine. If you like the ac/dc sound it will do it just being plugged in. The so-cal 50 head is customed matched to it cabinet. it does not sound as good using a marshall 4-12, or others. keep it with its cab. I run a tube overdrive pedal into a steroe chorus pedal then into the so-cal 50 on one side and a marshall tsl-60 on the other. The sounds that I am able to get are unreal. I find that I use the So-cal 50 more than I use my marshall. I do not even touch any of my crate heads anymore.
Features
This amp has all of the basic features you need. Reverb which is very strong. Two channels. drive/clean. The best feature is the independant/interactive eq. No amp out there has something like this. You have the ability to have a eq like a normal tube amp. or you can take it to the next level. The interactive eq. lets you feel the sound instead of just hearing it. The sound becomes part of your chest the feeling… read more is all there.
Ease of Use
When I first recieved the amp. I wanted the classic marshall gain. This amp will not do it. I worked on trying several diferent settings for about 2 months before it clicked. One day I just it just happened. The amp came to life. I do not know why. maybe it just needed time to warm up or to break in. Now all you have to do is turn it on. That's how hard it is to get a great sound out of it. Turn it on.
Quality
The amp is made fairly well. The head is built solid. The speaker cab is built solid as well. The only thing is when you put it next to a Marshall you can tell it is not made as well as the Marshall.
Value
For a hot tube Half stack for under $1000,00. You can't beat it. Don't bother with the Crate amps out there. Don't buy the solid state Marshalls. Buy this tube amp. You will not regret it.
Manufacturer Support
I give them a 10 for good faith. Have not had to use them.
The Wow Factor
It is a HOT LOOKING AMP. I have two they look great together. Just don't put them next to a marshall. The Marshalls look better.
