A "Vintage" Les Paul

The Les Paul Classic Worn has a solid Mahogany body with a Plain Maple Cap cut to the classic profile of a late '50s Les Paul. All Epiphone Les Pauls feature a 14-degree angled headstock that provides more pressure at the nut for longer sustain and better intonation without the hang-ups caused by "string-tree" gadgets. The Mahogany neck has an easy-to-play 60s era SlimTaper C profile with a worn open grain finish that combined with the worn color finish gives the Les Paul Classic Worn an elegant look. The neck has a 24.75" scale length, 22 medium jumbo frets, an Indian Laurel fingerboard with Trapezoid inlays, and a 12" fingerboard radius. The body and fingerboard have cream binding. The ABR nut is 1.68". Epiphone's famous sloped dovewing headstock has a "bell" shaped truss rod cover and Les Paul's iconic signature in gold silkprint along with an Epiphone '60s-era slanted logo in mother of pearl.

Alnico Classic PRO Humbuckers

The Epiphone Les Paul Classic Worn Collection features two open-coil "zebra" Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers with Alnico-V magnets, which provide a slightly higher output than vintage pickups and also have enhanced mids and highs. Each pickup has a Volume and Tone control with vintage-styled Gold 'Top read more Hats" knobs plus Epiphone's all-metal 3-way pickup selector switch.

Buck the Hum!

Epiphone Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers utilize a double vacuum waxing process that ensures you quiet operation free from microphonic hum. The pickup is first placed in a specialized wax vacuuming system before the cover is placed on the unit to ensure that the wax fully penetrates to the very center of the pickup and solidifies all parts. After the cover is placed on, the pickup is given a second vacuum wax bath until the unit is completely saturated. Epiphone uses only the highest quality parts for pickups including ABS plastic bobbins, 1010 Cold Rolled Steel pole shoes and pole screws, Alnico magnets and the finest magnet wire available.

LockTone ABR Bridge and Stopbar Tailpiece

The Les Paul Classic Worn comes with Epiphone's rock solid nickel hardware including a LockTone ABR bridge and Stopbar tailpiece combo that auto-locks the bridge and tailpiece in place with no tools needed. Tuning is fast and accurate with Grover Rotomatic machine heads with "kidney" buttons with an 18:1 tuning ratio.

I paid $549.00 for the Epiphone Les Paul Classic in Honeyburst, a beautiful finish for this guitar. That this guitar features push/pull pots on each volume control for split coils on the humbuckers and one tone control to have the humbuckers play in/out of phase says a lot about what Epiphone is willing to do to offer a guitar worth the price paid, and then some.Typical for the Les Paul guitar, thus model isn't chambered to keep the weight down so it is heavy, but the weight isn't a deal breaker, especially if you're used to heavy guitars, i.e. 335's, etc.The play ability of these Les Paul's is off the chart---smooth and easy, genuinely comfortable but it's the sound, that smooth purr that grows to a growl that speaks so much and so well, that legendary Les Paul voice that testifies to everything that the Les Paul hangs its hat on. Bear in mind that the Epiphone brand isn't seen as an inferior instrument, the problem still suffered by Squire by Fender; my Epiphone is all the guitar I could want and then some. What can I say with a final word? If you have one of these Classics then you know what I'm talking about; if not, then make a promise to yourself to get one soon. For real!

Sound
Not much more to add, but if you have a pedal-friendly amp (the Fender Champion 100 series leaps to mind) then all you've done is make life easier for yourself. Those humbuckers go from a growl to a roar with a decent overdrive or distortion stomp box. Cut the humbuckers read more to single coils and set the pickups to out-of phase and you've come dangerously close to a classic Stratocaster. This is not a bad thing.

Features
No complaints here as to features, sound, playability, price, although the Epiphone-branded hard-shell case is worth the price paid. Fits like a glove.

Ease of Use
The ease of getting a great sound out of this instrument is about as difficult as plugging the cable into the guitar, the cable into the amp and turning the amp on. Yeah, that's pretty much it.

Quality
Is the product well made? Watch any of these guitar shows and watch them do the blind-fold test between the Gibson and the Epiphone of the same model and how often the guy being tested gets it wrong!

Value
Is this guitar worth the asking price? It's worth that and then some. So much offered (push/pull pots, etc.) for a $500 price point? Yeah, you're not going to beat that.

Manufacturer Support
Other than to buy my guitar, no previous history with the company.

The Wow Factor
Appeal of this instrument? 100% if you are anywhere near shopping for your next guitar. ASAP if you ask me.

Musical Background:
50 years, give or take.

Musical Style:
Primarily blues with the famous fall back with classic rock.
