I paid $549.00 for the Epiphone Les Paul Classic in Honeyburst, a beautiful finish for this guitar. That this guitar features push/pull pots on each volume control for split coils on the humbuckers and one tone control to have the humbuckers play in/out of phase says a lot about what Epiphone is willing to do to offer a guitar worth the price paid, and then some.Typical for the Les Paul guitar, thus model isn't chambered to keep the weight down so it is heavy, but the weight isn't a deal breaker, especially if you're used to heavy guitars, i.e. 335's, etc.The play ability of these Les Paul's is off the chart---smooth and easy, genuinely comfortable but it's the sound, that smooth purr that grows to a growl that speaks so much and so well, that legendary Les Paul voice that testifies to everything that the Les Paul hangs its hat on. Bear in mind that the Epiphone brand isn't seen as an inferior instrument, the problem still suffered by Squire by Fender; my Epiphone is all the guitar I could want and then some. What can I say with a final word? If you have one of these Classics then you know what I'm talking about; if not, then make a promise to yourself to get one soon. For real!
Sound
Not much more to add, but if you have a pedal-friendly amp (the Fender Champion 100 series leaps to mind) then all you've done is make life easier for yourself. Those humbuckers go from a growl to a roar with a decent overdrive or distortion stomp box. Cut the humbuckers to single coils and set the pickups to out-of phase and you've come dangerously close to a classic Stratocaster. This is not a bad thing.
Features
No complaints here as to features, sound, playability, price, although the Epiphone-branded hard-shell case is worth the price paid. Fits like a glove.
Ease of Use
The ease of getting a great sound out of this instrument is about as difficult as plugging the cable into the guitar, the cable into the amp and turning the amp on. Yeah, that's pretty much it.
Quality
Is the product well made? Watch any of these guitar shows and watch them do the blind-fold test between the Gibson and the Epiphone of the same model and how often the guy being tested gets it wrong!
Value
Is this guitar worth the asking price? It's worth that and then some. So much offered (push/pull pots, etc.) for a $500 price point? Yeah, you're not going to beat that.
Manufacturer Support
Other than to buy my guitar, no previous history with the company.
The Wow Factor
Appeal of this instrument? 100% if you are anywhere near shopping for your next guitar. ASAP if you ask me.

I ordered this guitar in gold. I am retiring my 1975 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. It has a lot of miles on it. Still plays great and sounds terrific and maybe one of the only ones around that has never had a headstock problem! Anyway I wanted a guitar that has the same feel to the neck. This Epiphone Les Paul classic worn is it! It is definitely a perfect slim taper 60s neck. That's the way the 1970s Les Paul Deluxe guitars were. This Qatar sounds amazing and plays like butter. Absolutely perfect fret job and came out of the box setup. A big thank you to zZounds. This was my first time ordering anything from this company and they shipped it quickly. No sooner had I ordered then I had an email with the tracking number. Great communication. Excellent company.

Bought this guitar in purple burst in May 2021 to replace an aging LTD singlecut model that had served faithfully for several years, as well as a Squier VM Stratocaster which served even longer. Right out of the box it was packaged well and perfectly playable and ready to go. Setup, electronics, and fretwork were all superb. The wood on the purple model is slightly open pore, and lends itself to the slightly worn finish they were going for. Only issue I had right away was a nut holding the jack in place was stripped, causing the jack to be loose but it was a very simple fix. Finding the right sound is never an issue with the push/pull pots and the overall comfort and playability of this guitar is top notch. Now, after almost two years of shows and three albums later as my primary guitar, she’s still holding up very well and shows little wear. Tuners are stable and electronics sounds as good as ever. No rattles, no buzzing, no scratchy switches and pots. You really can’t go wrong, and this guitar will go toe to toe with others more than twice its price.

Got one turned out to the best playing LP I ever saw. Took it to my local tech for setup. Required very minimal amount of adjustment. My tech called and asked if i bought it new or was it used and been set up before. Told him new and his reply was “Don’t EVER sell it. It plays better than any LP I have ever set up in 25 years….and that includes Gibsons!”Very happy w/ this guitar!
Sound
it sounds great…amazing tone. I did eventually upgrade to EMG Hets for a more metal tone
Features
it was perfect
Ease of Use
super easy to play and works great w/ all my gear
Quality
last forever if taken care of however it does show some color coming off on neck @ edge were neck & third fret meet so a little heavier on color application would be great
Value

"Epiphone Les Paul Classic Worn. Decent Guitar!"

I`ve had an Love-Hate Relationship with Gibson for Decades. And it has cost me plenty of $$$. I have been playing this guitar for three days now and will give an Honest Review. If any of my Gibson Les Pauls and Sg`s arrived like this Epiphone I would have been over joyed! Okay that being said. The Gold Top looks really good! Since there is no coating of anything, not sure how it will look after hours of playing? It might look cool? The guitar is a Les Paul with cheap attributes. The inlays look dead. But I did own a late 90`s Gibson Lp. The block inlays on it looked dull like these. The Grovers work but they feel odd. I mean I have new ones here too unopened. I always keep Grover and Gotoh on hand. There is something different about these? The bridge is not an ABR-1 But works. The pickups don`t sound bad but are not great. The coil tapping is useless like on most Epiphones. The knobs are real cheap. Intonation is way off twelth fret and up. It has three sharp fret ends. Now for the good stuff! It has an 60`s neck profile. It is slim and easy to play. Okay I will just spit it out! It plays better than any 2k Gibson I have bought. And the Epiphone Sg Custom also plays better than any 2k Gibson except for my 1974 Sg. So if you want an Les Paul and really only need to upgrade the bridge pickup to make it great? Here you go! What a bargain! And they are on sale or the price came down? Either way here ya go! Yep it is a real Les Paul for all intensive purposes. You may want to buy a Gibson one? But be prepared, because this one may play better! I`m not even joking. Just upgrade the bridge pickup and setup the guitar and away you go! I haven`t used Gibson support since the early 2000`s when I bought a defective Gibson Angus Sg I guess I will give it a 5 to keep the rating up. Looking for a Good Lp style guitar with a Floyd Rose style trem? Kramer Assault. It is another Great Guitar!

Well, I was trying to get a couple more of the exclusive 1959 LP’s, but I wasn’t able to. The ones that I wanted shot up in price just recently, and may not arrive before July.So I discovered that the Gold Top LP Classics had gone up as well. But, zZounds had them still for $449.00. I ordered two. One for me and one for my son. The finish on the back and sides were smooth, clean satin. The top has been buffed with wire brush. I would have liked to see the top smooth satin like on the 1959, but you do have to get a foot or less closer to see the damage. Back and sides are pristinely smooth satin. It seems the filled the grain on the back and sides, just not on the top.The pickups Sound great with high gain and when playing clean. The one has a 2 piece body with a center seam. The other has at least 3 pieces for the body.I wound up tapping some frets down, and there were sharp edges on the frets, so I hit the ends with a file. That was really all of the work I had to do on them frets were all level by the time I got done. The frets are a little bigger than on the 59’s, which a lot of people digging the med/jumbo frets. The Laurel fretboard darkened quite a bit after oiling it.The tuners are Wilkinson, and I will get them to send me another set of tuners as there are some burrs that jam into your fingers when tuning up.At $449.00, there isn’t a whole lot to complain about.
Features
I would much rather had Grover tuners.
Quality
It seems like this guitar will last a long time. The frets are tall enough to allow a few leveling and crowning jobs.
Value
These guitars punch well above their price range. If you get one be prepared to take it for a set up, as with all guitars.
Manufacturer Support
I have had to call customer service between the Epiphones and Gibson. Took a long time to the the parts I needed, like four months. They couldn’t get parts from overseas during the Pandemic.
The Wow Factor
I also really like that these guitars come with the pick guard mounted. Les Paul’s just seem to look naked without it.

Prepare to be happy. I bought two of these… One for me, and one for my son. The pickups sound great and they have coil splitting via push/pull pots and they sound equally good in single or double coil mode. I was really expecting to have to replace them, so I was quite pleased when I discovered that I wouldn’t have to.Fit and finish was quite good. I was also pleased to discover that the only part of the guitar that was worn was the top. The rest of the guitar is satin, with a veneered back. But no wear or damages beside the top.The only corner they cut was using Wilkinson Tuners. They have sharp edges on the buttons. They should have stuck with Grover’s. But at $449, these are a really good value. While there is a veneer on the back there isn’t a veneer on the sides, and you can see how many pieces of wood the body is made of. On one I count three, and the other one I can count four. I don’t really care about that. It’s the same with the neck as well. The neck is not one piece and on one of them they didn’t do a really nice job of matching the pieces at the headstock joint.Great guitar for a beginner just starting out, or for an advanced player to gig in places that you wouldn’t want to take a 3K Gibson. There were a few proud frets and a little bit of sprout that was easily fixed. A beginner should count on needing to have the guitar set up. The fret work would have been covered under the warranty I am sure. But it took me about 15 minutes to do it myself.

the finish on thr ebony is exactly what i wanted and the feel is great. I didnt have any fret issues like most of the reviews I watched but there are some areas that needs attention. The picks arent terrible but are not on par with my other guitars. They just have way too much low end. The nut heighth is about 3mm off the fret board which isnt too bad. Not having the cst pots is a bummer. Now for the good. The tuners appear to be holding tune very good after a string change. The bridge is very comfortable and seems well made. The fret board is a lot better than i was expecting.
Sound
The stock pickups leave a little to be desired. After I throw in some jbs this thing will scream.
Features
this model should come with cts pots no one can argue. The coil split is a nice touch but ill probably never use it.
Ease of Use
The playability is very nice and smooth
Quality
Ive only had it for one day but its pretty sturdy. I expect ot to hold up well. Minus the cheap electronics.
Value
Considering the corner cutting with the pots i feel this should sell around 400-425.
Manufacturer Support
The last epiphone i bought i didnt keep this one will stick around.
The Wow Factor
The style of this guitar is amazing very appealing.

I really wasn't sure if I was going to like the finish but after playing it for a few days I'm in love. It almost feels like raw wood in my hands. Very earthy. Almost hand crafted. The pickups are a little bit hotter than the probuckers in my standard pro but the quality is every bit a match. The electronics are not cts like the regular 2020 classic and that was a bit of a let down but they still work fine. Very well built instrument. Aside from some sharp fret ends the quality is just what I expect at this price point. Setup out of the box was perfect.
Sound
pickups are hotter than probucker but suits my style great. Electronics are not cts although the regular classic does have this feature. Split coil.feature is fantastic.
Features
the electronics not being cts like the regular classic was a big let down. Tuners and bridge are great
Ease of Use
very playable. Sounds very powerful and sustain is simply amazing.
Quality
very sturdy and well made. Came set up perfectly out of the box. Fret edges are a little sharp but that can be fixed fairly easy.
Value
this guitar is every bit as good aside from the fret edges as my standard pro. Totally worth the money.
The Wow Factor
the worn finish on this guitar is very unique. I really wasn't sure if I was going to like it but I've totally fallen in love. It feels like a real piece of wood in my hands. Almost as if it was made for me

"things to know about a les paul style guitar"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

when i got this guitar it was beautiful to me, i immediatly put new strings on it and tuned it......the strings stretched and i took that into consideration......after four days of stretching, the g and d string and b just would not stay in tune......so i got to looking at my tuners, i thought they were slipping.....come to find out, the advertized grover tuners did not come on my guitar. when notifying zZounds, appearently epiphone reserves the right to substitute an equal quality part without notification to the customer. so i ended up with wilkinson tuners, they were comparable to the grovers and the reviews of them were good......so i did some research on why my guitar wasnt tuning......being this is the first les paul type guitar i had ever owned in fifty years of playin.....i found out there is a design flaw in the les paul design.......its the headstock, with its tilt of 15 degrees it puts a bind on the upper nut causing the strings to catch and once you bend a string it would not return to the original position......the epiphone i believe is 11 degree tilt, still creating tension on the upper nut with the same problem......so i did some research on you tube and found several was to cure the problem, the route i chose was i had an old fender lying around and took the tensioners off the head of the fender and put it in the middle screw and ran my wires through and that cured 95% of my problem. i then filed out my nut slightly and this also helped...... the the final solution to ease tension, i wrapped my strings over the top of the tail piece and raised it to about a three degree angle to the bridge.........this now solved all my tuning problems. it was a headache figuring all this stuff out and now that its fixed, this thing very rarely goes out of tune......simply amazing.......what i cant figure is that gibson les pauls cost 2200- 5000 dollars and have the same problems. it would seem for that price they would at least let you know that out of the box, it aint gonna stay in tune.......but after all the bs.......i actually love the tone and playability of this guitar. it sounds great and now it stays in tune.....would i give it a 5 star rating.....no. i would give it a four, im penalizing the grading system for not at least posting something about the modifications and set up you have to do to play one of these.......but for the price, and for the tone quality, the price is worth it

It's not the most attractive thing, but definitely a Les Paul in all the ways that matter most. Modding mine almost immediately with stuff I mostly have on hand, but the stock pups are pretty good. Not my sound but one that a lot of people would be very happy with, unlike the old muddy epiphone pickups of days gone by these are very credible.Nut on this one was cut near-perfectly, as well as I've seen on any guitars in this range. All of the electronics work & feel solid. In a pinch I'd have no issue playing a show as it arrived out of the box. A tiny amount of fret sprout, and I'm not crazy about the matte finish. The back of the neck is going to need some kind of sanding or something, it feels like eggshell wall paint. Minor things and easily addressed. But yes, if you have a tight budget and need a no-frills Les Paul, maybe for your home studio, this does the trick! Actually it does have 2 push-pulls so that's a little frilly.
