I’ve been using Logic for years and have a basement studio filled with hardware synths. Logic is great, but I’ve bought nearly every controller known to man trying to improve the recording experience—and I still couldn’t escape the constant mouse clicking and menu diving of a computer-based DAW.The Akai MPC XL has now taken over my studio. I can record MIDI from my hardware, easily edit my performances, convert everything to audio, arrange complete songs, and walk away with a WAV file nearly every day.I had no previous MPC experience, so the first week was rough. I had no idea what I was doing. But I adapted surprisingly quickly, and now my workflow feels much more streamlined and efficient.It’s also much more than a recording device. The live-performance controls are amazing, the drum pads feel great, and it has made my Roland TR-8S completely obsolete—so now I have to sell that!I won’t go on forever, but this really is a complete package: drum machine, MIDI sequencer, sampler, live-performance instrument, arranger, and final recorder—all in one relatively easy-to-use box. Most importantly, I’m having more fun and finishing more music than I ever did with a computer-based DAW.Quick note....I saved a bunch of money and gambled on a "Very Good" open box unit. Best decision I made. zZounds warehouse definitely inspects before shipping...
