The Tascam DM-4800 is the ultimate digital console for professional users who demand a flexible, 64-channel mix platform that configures to fit their needs. A "fat channel" strip in the center of the board provides instant access to 4-band parametric EQ, dynamics and aux controls available for the first 48 channels. Twenty-four studio-grade mic preamps provide enough inputs for a live event, and more can be added using expansion cards with external preamps. The standard compliment of analog and digital I/O is more than you'll find on consoles costing three times as much, and a completely confi gurable 24-buss routing system allows you to re-patch the board at the flick of a switch.

Tascam's DM-4800 fits seamlessly into the modern recording environment based around a computer DAW. With a single button press, the Remote layer provides a 24-fader control surface for control of premiere workstations such as Pro Tools, Logic, SONAR, DP, Cubase and Nuendo. The optional IF-FW/DM mkII interface card provides 32 channels to and from a computer at up to 96kHz over a single FireWire cable. And the optional surround monitoring card provides downmixing, bass management and level control for mixing in up to 6.1 surround. No matter what your application, the TASCAM DM-4800 adapts to the needs of any professional audio installation.

Tascam DM4800 Digital Mixer Reviews

40 People rated this product :

"The Best Value for a Digital Mixer"
Feature:
The onboard TC reverbs sound beautiful and can be tweaked to fit specific mixes. The firewire card is great! 32 ins and outs to my DAW. The remote layer allows 24 faders linked to the virtual faders in my DAW. The compressors sound very good. I'm not sure why one of the other reviewers was complaining about distortion. To me the comps sound punchy and clear. (If set properly) The routing capabilities are quite staggering once you figure out how to assign them. I wish there was an input for typing in names. The text entry is a bit awkward.

Quality:
The mixer seems very well made. Solid construction and good quality faders and knobs. Very pretty looking too.

Value:
The value is undeniable. No other digital mixer even comes close. At twice the price, the Yamaha 02R doesn't have touch sensitive faders. This thing is a bargain.

Desirability:
It is a real beauty. It makes my studio look more "pro". It has taken my mixes to a whole new level.

Sound:
It has a very open and polished sound. It is great for fine tuning and crafting complex mixes. It easily interfaces with my sequencer software and the firewire card works flawlessly. My mixes are sounding better than ever.

Ease of Use:
For me, it was pretty hard to figure out. The user interface is not very intuitive. Once you get it, things become easier. The manual is O.K. but the product is so deep, I think it is hard to explain everything. Some sort of video or tutorial would be helpful.

Support:
I haven't needed support.

Overall:
I wish it had 76 channels. I wish all of the channels were full-featured. That being said, it is really working well for me. The 96k capability and firewire card give it long legs to stand on. I don't anticipate needing to upgrade for a while.

"An excellent console except... THE COMPRESSION SUCKS!!!!!!!!"
Feature:
For the price, the features are right up there with the Yamaha DM2K (at roughly 4x the list price of the TASCAM). They actually did the routing a bit better than Yamaha... can send ANY input to ANY output via just about any signal path... Yamaha could take a lesson!

Quality:
It's very pretty!! However, it loses points for the CRAPPY COMPRESSORS!!!!

Value:
At $5000, this console is a bargain... even with the BIG PROBLEM WITH THE COMPRESSION ALGORITHM!!!! (i put this in caps so that maybe TASCAM will take heed and fix this problem). Aside from this one problem, this console is rock solid. I own three of them and two of the DM3200's and have used them for two seasons to record "The Biggest Loser", "Beauty and the Geek" and numerous other reality shows. No problems, crashes, etc... aside from the VERY BAD COMPRESSION!!!!!

Desirability:
Probably the best looking console in the "under $20,000" catagory.

Sound:
The mic pres are OK... rather transparent, but headroom is a bit tight. Also, don't even THINK about using the dynamics, the compression algorithm causes a severe distortion. TASCAM should really be ashamed of putting out a "pro" product with such a marked and easily fixable flaw!!

Ease of Use:
If you've used one digital console... actually, the menus on this console are very easy to navigate.

Support:
I have always had good experiences with phone support from TASCAM.
