Product Description

What does it take to produce the next hit? It takes more than just a hot beat, that's for sure. It takes talent, dedication, a finely-tuned ear, and equipment that'll take you from inspiration to radio-ready. While those first three elements are hard to come by, the Roland MV-8800 has the gear-factor covered. It's got a control layout that'll be instantly familiar to any hip-hop, electronica, or R&B fan. It's got a rich, non-linear multitrack sequencer, included mouse, and VGA monitor output to get deep into your mix. And it's got a full suite of mastering tools and a built-in CD burner for getting your music out of the box and into the world. This is what production means--starting with an idea and turning it into a reality--and the Roland MV-8800 is a true music production studio.

A Instrument Of Creation
The MV-8800 isn't merely a tool. With sixteen of the nicest-feeling, rubberized trigger pads around, this MV plays like the classic hop-hip sampler it was modeled after. In fact, it makes an impressive live performance instrument. This is where your inspiration starts to take shape. Play and compose with any of the preloaded sounds, including emulations of genuine Roland machines like the SH-range synthesizers and the TR-808 and -909, not to mention a full complement of acoustic instrument samples like pianos, horns, world percussion, and more. Or, create your own sounds by sampling anything you hear in the world around you. The MV-8800 features balanced stereo analog inputs that can accept microphones, keyboards, guitars, basses--anything you can run a 1/4-inch plug out of. There's even a dedicated stereo RCA pair with binding post for connecting your turntable and sampling from your beloved vinyl collection. Sophisticated sample editing tools make it easy to trim, normalize, chop, pitch, and otherwise bang the audio you've sampled into workable shape. (If you're partial to the sounds of old-school sampling machines like the SP-1200, you'll be happy to know the MV-8800 has built-in 12-bit emulation sampling mode to recreate that vintage crunch.) This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Beyond Beat-Making
The main feature that sets the MV-8800 apart from the competition is its fully loaded, non-linear, multi-track sequencer. This editing software is more like the DAWs you'd load onto your computer--the MV-8800 even comes with a mouse and has a VGA output for connecting an optional computer monitor. And you'll be glad it does; the MV-8800 offers a ton of DAW-like features, including a 24-stereo-track mixer with full automation and channel effects like EQ and panning. Because the MV-8800 lets you record up to eight full audio tracks next to your sequenced sample playback, you can hook a mic right up to the machine and have your MC spit or your singer belt the vocal hook without ever having to import the project to a computer. Intelligent beat matching makes crafting loop-based tracks second-nature. Use the sliders to control and automate every parameter, from track volume to panning to effects. Oh yeah, there's a huge helping of effects loaded onto the MV-8800, from must-haves like compression and reverb to extras like BOSS stompbox effects and the Roland RE-201 Space Echo. Because the MV-8800 makes use of CSOM-powered effects processing, every patch sounds like the real thing. The multi-track sequencer on the MV-8800 is intuitive enough to get you up and running on day one, but deep enough that you'll discover new tricks on every project.

Master Your Own Destiny
Once your mix is perfect, preserve it. The MV-8800 is packed with a full-on mastering suite to turn your final mixes into radio-ready mega-hits. Dedicated stereo processes like multi-band compression, maximizing limiter, and a mastering EQ will make sure your project has the same punch, sheen, and volume as its radio competition. Wen you know your music is ready for dissemination, the included CD burner makes it easy to walk away with a final product you can hold.

It's a simple equation. Your + Roland MV-8800 = no limits. Get your beats down, craft them into amazing mixes, and produce your finalized track, all from one machine. Order your MV-8800 from zZounds today.

Product Description

Since 2003, Roland's MV-8000 has been a coveted centerpiece for many of the world's greatest hip-hop and R&B producers. With its powerful hands-on features, and its ability to incorporate a VGA monitor and mouse, it brought the best of the hardware- and software- based production worlds together. Today, Roland sets a new standard in production power and flexibility with the MV-8800.

Synthesis, Sampling, Recording, Mixing, Mastering
The MV-8800 is a fully equipped sampler and synthesizer with parameters that can be edited and automated with the assignable sliders and/or with a VGA monitor and mouse (VGA monitor optional, mouse included). It's also an advanced multitrack recorder equipped with an automated 24-channel stereo mixer and mega effects processor. Mastering tools are provided as well, including a parametric mastering EQ, enhancer, expander, multiband compressor, mastering limiter and soft-clip algorithm with output dithering.

Sound Library Onboard
Create your own sounds or load up to 128 instruments or drum kits at once from the MV-formatted sound library that's preinstalled on the hard drive. Newly created drum kits are provided, including a special collection of 16 vintage drum machines such as the legendary Roland TR-808 and TR-909. Acoustic and electric pianos, strings, guitars, horns, synth basses and other essential instruments are also included.

Amazing Pitch & Time Control

You can match the pitches of melodic phrases just as easily. Create loop-based tracks on the fly, all locked together in perfect pitch and time sync.

Vintage & Modern Effects
An incredible lineup of modern and vintage effects is built into the MV-8800, including models of classic Roland SRV reverbs, SDD-320 Chorus, SBF-325 Flanger, Boss BF-2 and HF-2 pedals, and the legendary RE-201 Space Echo. The MV-8800's multi-effects processor includes an Analog Modeling Bass that turns the MFX engine into a virtual SH-style bass synthesizer. All MFX knob tweaks can be automated as you mix.

Customer Reviews
4.5 out of 5 (75 ratings) Rate and Review This Product
zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us. "Move to the MV, you won't regret it."
Sound: As with any sampler, quality in means quality out. With the MV, however, you do get vintage drum kits and a built in synth that both sound excellent. This sampler has great punch and the sounds are highly customizable. Feature: The VGA out is great. I would'nt go without it. The sample editing and chopping capabilities are superior to the MPC's capabilities (I used to own several MPCs) - it's no contest. The MV is built solid and you don't have to worry about loose pads or cheaply made boxes (e.g., MPC 1000). Roland stands behind its products and makes quality gear. Ease of Use: Look, I gave this a 10 because, like everything else, you MUST learn how to use your gear. Once you learn how to navigate the MV and learn how to optimize the quantize settings, the ease of use is a 10! Note to MPC headz, you MUST be willing to learn the MV if you are thinking about switching - the MV's features are much greater than the MPC's (including the 4K). Switch up, you won't regret it. Quality: Roland's products are study and well built. Pads are nice and, most importantly, I don't have that uneasy feeling that I had when I owned my MPC's - that feeling of "I hope my MPC doesn't freeze or crash or break." Nice. Unlike Akai/Numark, Roland doesn't hide from customers. Value: It's a bit pricey, but far less than it's closest rival (the MPC 4K). Less money, VGA out, numerous effects, color screen, and a solid OS! The choice is clear. Manufacturer Support: Very responsive. The Wow Factor: I own it. If you are worried about the sex appeal, you have bigger issues. Make music by any means. Overall: I switched from MPC to MV and I don't regret it. Coming from the MPCs, it took me less than 1 week to learn the MV and now it's second nature to me. Lastly, check out the MPC forums and read the several posts about "loose pads," "crashing," "buggy OS." No, I do not work for Roland - I'm simply a consumer that believes that a company should provide quality products and stand behind them. That's all. Anyway, the MV8800 is a great product.

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful. "The best production studio there is, period."
Sound: Having a two decade production history, I know a good sound when I hear it and the MV has it by the ton! The sound is very natural and organic, punchy and kicks thanks to the excellent filter section and effects. You can also degrade the sound (either going into it or after it's there) and give it that SP-12/1200 or Ensoniq ASR sound. I cannot see that anyone would be unhappy with the quality of this unit. Feature: Not that features alone make a good bit of kit (it has to be easy to use or you'll never get at what it can do), but Roland really seem to have included everything you would need here. The once optional VGA & Mouse board is already fitted as standard and you also get a mouse and a mouse pad too, which is a nice extra touch. The auto-chop feature is amazing, not just cutting to a timing grid, but also being able to cut to waveform peaks (which makes getting individual beats out of a loop very easy). Turntable inputs (no DJ mixer required) are great too. Can't fault it at all. It has everything you need to make a modern music production and compete with todays software dominated marketplace. Ease of Use: If you've used a beat making machine like this before, then I don't think it's too difficult to get into at all. If you're from a more DAW software history, then I really would suggest adding a VGA display and hooking up the mouse, as it will make you feel more at home than just using the machines display. It's really like having the best of both worlds here though, and I've been trying for years to get the feel this machine has with pad controllers and plugins like Guru and Stylus RMX and all I can say is, forget it! Software is cool and gets the job done (eventually), but there is no real substitute for a machine like the MV (and I've used just about every software DAW there is). Roland also post easy use PDF books to download from Roland US, even one for MPC users that shows you how to move over to the MV with no stress at all. Quality: FANTASTIC! Very high build quality (you will notice that the MV is made in Japan and not in China). All metal construction (except for the plastic sides), very solid (not to mention quite heavy, because of the build quality). Also, it's quite large, being a little bigger than an MPC4000 (though not in hight), which gives it a very "pro" feel, as you don't feel that everything is on top of each other. You have ample space to move around and the layout is very clear and well organized. Value: While the MV's not cheap, you do get what you pay for. Looking at everything that you get out of the box, the build quality, the features and the sound quality, it really is worth every the asking price. It's not something that's going to lose it's value overnight either, as the original MV-8000 was in production for 4 years and held it's price very well in that time. Manufacturer Support: After buying Roland products for 20 years, I can honestly say that I have never once had a problem with support. They've always been there when I've needed them and always gone beyond what most other companies would do to be of help to the customer. Also, Roland make regular updates available which are not just "bug fixes". They actually give the unit new features (look at the history for the original MV-8000 for proof of that), always giving the user as much as possible and they are always free upgrades too. The Wow Factor: The MV is a very desirable product. It's sleek and great to look at (and after all, you will be looking at it all the time, if your a professional user, so you have to like looking at it, as it's part of what makes you want to use it). Great design (but then most Roland products are), velvet-feeling pads (which I think are way better than the MPC pads for feel, as you just don't get tired of using them and way better than the "harder" pads of the MPC1000 and 500). Overall: I would have to say that this is one of the best products I've ever owned, as I feel so satisfied with the way in which it works and the results it produces that I would only ever replace it with the next generation of Roland MV (which, if this MV stays in production for as long as the original MV-8000, you won't be seeing until the 2011 Winter NAMM show!). I wouldn't think of replacing it with a product by another manufacturer, as it just wouldn't be as good and wouldn't feel the same. I did my homework before I bought it, I talked to people at Roland, looked at videos on You Tube and Roland US, went to a store and spent several hours playing with it, so have no "oh no, I hate it because it can't do..." feelings. It does everything I want it to and much (much) more. My advice? If you can afford it, BUY IT NOW!!!
