After many hours of serious development by Marshall's experienced team of guitar playing designers, they now proudly present the AS50R, a 50 Watt dedicated acoustic combo which benefits from many of the features so popular on the AS80R, and which marks the arrival of a new range of Marshall acoustic amplification. As amplifier technology has moved on, they have been able to develop highly efficient, clean power amps which really perform, without losing the all important portability expected by the combo player.

The AS50R is both compact and portable and features 2 channels, each of which boasts its own independent volume and tone controls. The variety of inputs gives the AS50R the flexibility to handle any acoustic instruments with transducer pickups, such as magnetic or Piezo [channel 1], or microphone for vocal or other instrument reproduction [channel 2]. Also, a pair of phono inputs on channel 2 allows the reproduction of backing tracks.

It has a built-in chorus, assignable to either or both channels, plus reverb and parallel effects loop that can be balanced between the 2 channels. Anti-feedback controls include a Phase switch and 'Notch' - selectable by a rotary control. The AS50R is loaded with 2x8 in. speakers and a high-efficiency piezo tweeter, for clear and detailed reproduction. It also has an internal limiter that allows you to drive the 50 Watt power stage hard, yet remain distortion-free.

Sound: I went to the local music store and played everything they had in stock, including the Roland AC-60 and the SWR and a few Crates. But none reproduced the sound of my Taylor 814-CE with the same accuracy. There are some other amps that I might buy in the future, but since I'm not a singer and simply a songwriter playing finger style most of the time. I wanted an amp that would reproduce the sound and dynamics of the guitar without coloring the sound. I would buy another in a heart beat if this amp where stolen, or lost. Feature: For my purposes the Reverb is all I need. I occasionally play with the chorus, but never while performing Ease of Use: This is a plain simple amp. Everything about it is intuitive, and should not be difficult for anyone who has ever plug a guitar into an amp. Quality: The amp is built like a tank, it's very solid, and I've never had any problems with it of any kind. Value: In the price range it is the best sounding amp I've found. The Wow Factor: The colors look great together, it looks pretty classy in my opinion. Overall: I will probably replace this amp with another of the same if something happens to it. Right now I do have another acoustic amp, and might buy another down the road. But I will always be a fan of this amp.

"Good for the money."

Sound: I do own this amp, so I've played through it a lot. (I play Taylor guitars.) It sounds pretty good at lower volumes. It doesn't preserve the sound of my guitar (though most of the problem has to do with piezo pickups, which are not good because they change the sound of the guitar, and I hate them), though it does a better job than other amps in the price range, like the Fender Acoustisonic. It doesn't do too well at higher volumes, but what can you expect from a small amp. Sometimes I'll use it as a monitor. The chorus sounds good. Feature: I has 2 channels which is good. It also has a DI out, which I use frequently. It also has Chorus and Reverb, which I enjoy. Quality: Everything seems to be good quality as far as I can tell. I have had no problems with quality. Value: I think that even though I have some complaints about the sound and about the volume limitations, it is still a good value for the money. I don't regret purchasing it. Overall: I think it's pretty good overall, considering the price. I am happy with it for the most part.
