For: PCs, iMacs, laptops, or any computer with native USB support. 2 in, 2 out. 2 balanced XLR Mic inputs, 2 unbalanced 1/4 in. TS inputs, and 2 balanced 1/4 TRS inputs to insure that your signal will always be clean.

The Duo is a powerful tool for recording mic and line level signals over USB in the highest quality possible. The Duo allows you to record from microphones (even large diaphragm mics that require phantom power) or any line level sources. You can optimize your levels with gain controls and pads, as well as signal and clip LEDs. Use the Direct Monitor button for zero latency monitoring (direct from the sources without going through the computer and software). You can also adjust the global output of the Duo by toggling between +4db and 10db on the rear panel. Headphones may also be connected for convenient monitoring in the field. When disconnected form the USB port, the Duo also functions as a high performance 24-bit standalone A/D converter. Select your sample rates via the DIP switches on the bottom of the unit (44.1, 48, 88.2, and 96kHz), connect the S/PDIF output to your digital device, and you're ready to record digitally anywhere, anytime. The Duo's digital output is compatible with 24-, 20-, and 16-bit devices.

"Affordable for the features"

Provided I don't have any further hardware issues I expect I'll use this indefinitely. It has a lot of nice features and provided acceptable sound; all for a good price.

Sound
Sounds good.

Features
I wanted a box with built in preamps. Since the mbox was out of my price range, I got this.

Quality
The product, while unattractive, seems very solidly built.

Value
The unit itself and its features are worth the price, and the software bundle is a nice plus. I only wish it were a bit more attractive, but that really wasn't a factor in the purchase decision.

Manufacturer Support
Within 2 weeks of plugging in the unit I had a problem. Support was responsive and polite, but didn't provide me with regular updates about the product's repair status, which is what I really wanted. All told, the product will have been with them about 3 weeks. According to repair department, it is advisable to turn off phantom power before and after plugging or unplugging xlr cables. Perhaps I should have known better, but you'd think the unit would be idiot proofed a little. Regardless, they're sending a new unit that should be here in a couple days. The staff was polite, and though they should have been responsive to every email I sent, rather than just a couple, I think they did an acceptable job with dealing with the repair situation.… read more

The Wow Factor
Not sexy, but that's not really the point. The knobs feel comfortable, the leds are solid and attractive, but the plain gray case with black screening feels a little too utilitarian. If it had a brushed black finish or even simply a colored faceplate they could probably sell it for a bit more, considering the features.
