"Affordable for the features"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Provided I don't have any further hardware issues I expect I'll use this indefinitely. It has a lot of nice features and provided acceptable sound; all for a good price.
Sound
Sounds good.
Features
I wanted a box with built in preamps. Since the mbox was out of my price range, I got this.
Quality
The product, while unattractive, seems very solidly built.
Value
The unit itself and its features are worth the price, and the software bundle is a nice plus. I only wish it were a bit more attractive, but that really wasn't a factor in the purchase decision.
Manufacturer Support
Within 2 weeks of plugging in the unit I had a problem. Support was responsive and polite, but didn't provide me with regular updates about the product's repair status, which is what I really wanted. All told, the product will have been with them about 3 weeks. According to repair department, it is advisable to turn off phantom power before and after plugging or unplugging xlr cables. Perhaps I should have known better, but you'd think the unit would be idiot proofed a little. Regardless, they're sending a new unit that should be here in a couple days. The staff was polite, and though they should have been responsive to every email I sent, rather than just a couple, I think they did an acceptable job with dealing with the repair situation.
The Wow Factor
Not sexy, but that's not really the point. The knobs feel comfortable, the leds are solid and attractive, but the plain gray case with black screening feels a little too utilitarian. If it had a brushed black finish or even simply a colored faceplate they could probably sell it for a bit more, considering the features.

"Great USB recording device."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Does everything I want it to. No annoying features or lacking features. I'd recommend it, highly.
Sound
I'm very pleased with the sound of the Duo. I have a couple of Marshall condensor mic's I use for recording acoustic GTR and voice, and I run my acoustic through it with an inserted pickup. I just bought an electric and a V-amp and cant wait to plug it in. Dont use it live, just for home recording. Make sure you have the latest drivers off their site.
Features
I'm using it with Cubase SX, Reason 2.5, and a G4 Powermac. It meets all my needs. I'd like to have seen it with built in direct box capabilities, but hey, that's not what this is intended for. I've had 15 tracks or so with tons of VST effects going before I get the crackling of USB bandwidth issues.
Quality
Solid construction. Looks great, works great, very small footprint. No worries.
Value
Like I said, I bought it used, on eBay. Paid 173.00, and it's worth every penny maybe a bit more.
Manufacturer Support
I really dont know, bought it used off of Ebay. Website's first rate, drivers updated regularly.
The Wow Factor
It's sexy. I'd replace it with the same piece if I needed to.

"Unit does not function as advertised and in Faq"

Overall: 0.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Purchaser zZounds has verified that this reviewer purchased this specific product from us.
Unit does not function as advertised and in Faq
Sound
Digital output from analog was not avarilable when operated according to the manual.
Features
Product does not function as advertised - It does not function as a standalone converter. Tech support stated this but could not help further. This is in conflict with M-Audio's advertising and Faq. Also, the USB drivers take over other other audio computer card essential applications which is ill-behaved. The unit is neither useful for USB, or standalone applications.
Quality
Otherwise, the unit is high quality and professionally outfitted. Perhaps another product of M-Audio would be appropriate until this is remedied.
Value
To be satisfactory, either change advertising or reengineer unit to operate as specified.
Manufacturer Support
One-day response is good, but only confirmed the inevitable.
The Wow Factor
No.

"Drivers don't work with Windows XP."

Overall: 2.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I think it would have been fine if it worked with Windows XP. However, it doesn't, and that's a killer for me. I've swapped it for a Tascam US-122, which has the plus that it's USB powered, but no standalone capabilities.
Sound
Due to driver problems, I could only check the sound quality with headphone monitoring. It sounded fine on the headphones.
Features
For the price, the features are just what I would want for field recording onto a laptop, except that it would be nice to have an optional battery pack to power it without AC.
Quality
Seems mechanically solid. Good metal case. Things plug in securely
Value
If you're using a Mac, or if you're still using Windows 2000, I expect you would be quite satisfied with the value of this product.
Manufacturer Support
They did respond to email relatively promptly. They gave me instructions for completely uninstalling everything so I could start from scratch, however they seemed to be unaware that their product's drivers weren't working on XP. A salesperson told me that it was a known problem with some M-Audio products.
The Wow Factor
It's not sexy. It is kind of cool to be able to record right onto your laptop though.
