4.5 out of 5 (99 ratings) Rate and Review This Product
zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us. "This is ONE great buy!!!"
Sound: I must say this thing has some awesome sound quality. I've been using it for nearly two years playing in a rock-worship band. There are settings that are suitable for any style of music, and there are some I have yet to discover and experience. This product makes my $450 amp sound like a $2000 stack. Get one!!! Feature: I got exactly what I paid for. The product is well described on the website and I've no regrets. The only thing that could make this a better piece of equipment is to be able to program sounds for certain songs, to go directly to those sounds without having to scroll through the presets. Ease of Use: I give a lower score here. For musicians who are on-the-go and/or who are parents may not have the time to figure this thing out. However, like I said, there is yet to be discovered and I plan to do so this spring/summer. I don't find it to be all that easy. It is easy enough to change sounds, but to use other functions is going to take me more time and effort. Quality: As I've said, I have been using this pedal for nearly 2 years and its taken all I've been able to throw at it. I'm a bit OCD'ish, so it is important to me to keep it in the box it came in when I'm not using it. So, if you take care of it, it will last a long time. Cosmetically, it looks like it did the day I took it out for the first time. I also have two very hyper boys who have been using this pedal in their own practice. It has withstood the abuse. Value: A lot for the money. There is more to this product than I may ever use. Manufacturer Support: The pedal has been so good, I've not had to talk to support. The Wow Factor: How would I rate the "sex appeal" of this product??? What a funny question. . .I've never thought of the product quite that way before. It is attractive and fun to use. It looks great on the stage and I have received several comments from fellow bandmembers and other people who just walk up on the stage to look at it. The description I get the most from other people is, "That's an awesome piece of equipment!" Overall: I'll be satisfied until the day it dies. I would probably upgrade rather than buy the same product again. However, I am highly likely to buy from the same manufacturer when upgrading my equipment. So, this has nothing to do with this product. It would certainly be worth the purchase price. Buy new, not used. You never know. . .you know??? It does all I need it to and more. I like the power it gives me but do still wish I could program it to go to certain sounds when I'm ready for them, rather than having to scroll through the settings.

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful. "Sound Searching? - Find yourself in the RP300"
Sound: The reason I give the sound rating an "8" is based on an overall review of the settings given and the sounds desired. My stylings have always been in blues, rock n' roll, and country...so I don't really have a need for a lot of the more metal settings, nor the sorta far-out syth effects that sound just plain fake. Don't get me wrong, these settings are fun to play around with and depending on your tastes could be useful, but I got no real use for em. This pedal is capable of some fine vintage sounding tones and can go gonzo whenever you want. Personally, I think their "Cowpie" preset is the best thing they got....very classic sound for all types of music. The wah pedal is a little wierd and hard to get sounding the way I want. I've opted to using my actual crybaby for wah effects, and just use the expression pedal on the RP300 as an on/off switch for other effects like delay, reverb, gain. I have found that as a volume pedal it is too hard to use....I'd much rather control my volume with the controls on my Telecaster. There is no display of your level on the pedal when using the volume pedal function, and when playing live I've found that it's hard to just find your level in one quick move of your foot. Sometimes it too loud, sometimes it's not loud enough. If this pedal is being used in a live setting, be sure you have your presets lined up together so you may find them quickly. Overall, this pedal has too many ways to increase and decrease your volume, so be sure you know where all your levels are when using differents effects/settings for different songs. SET-UP, SET-UP, SET-UP....Set it up yourself. While the presets are great, you've got to make your own settings to hear how you really can sound with this pedal. If you like fuzz.....create your own fuzz setting and see if it works, cause thier "Foxy", or fuzz setting is SO overblown that no matter how clean your playing may be, you'll sound like that distant radio station that never really comes in. At the end of the day, the sounds capable here are alright. Some, I love in principle, but the rotory speaker effect in this machine sounds terrible...very digital, very electronic, very fake. I would have loved to see a signal booster, but the only way to do that with this unit is to use their amp models for gain and distortion. Personally, if you buy an amp, you want to sound like that amp, and not like a modeled version of another amp. Using a signal booster would surely help drive your amp, but without using one, you are forced to use thier modeled distortion and you might be dissapointed. For recording purposes (if can't mike your amp or play loudly), you can plug this box straight into your computer or your four-track and get good quality recordings. All-in-all, this pedal really serves as the best tool out there to help you realize your sound. You have access to tons of effects and sounds and if you are like me, you will play with all of them. You'll play some crazy stuff just messing around with this thing. Having played with this pedal in solitude and in many live performances I have a better feeling of what I want by knowing what I don't want. Experiment with this pedal, it'll be worth it. Feature: Some of the features included in this unit (outside of the massive amount of effects) include a REALLY CHEESY "drum machine". It's ok, if you want to practice playing within an audible time, but they really just sound bad....I mean like if I ever played the blues with a drummer that played their version of that beat......I'd kill myself....right there on stage. The line out has a left and a right channel, or in other words...it can help play in stereo!! This feature is very cool and allows your to pan your sound back and forth at will or at an already preset level. The RP300 has a headphone slot.....works fine. Also, there's a feature that allows you to plug in a portible music device such as a Diskman or an iPod and play along, over the music. That's pretty cool, and works just fine. There's a "learn-a-lick" feature that allows you to record a piece of music from the "playalong" jack and loop it at whatever speed you'd like w/out losing pitch. I think the feature is too complicated to use and much prefer the good old technique of playing along at the song's actual speed. In my opinion, all these features are great, with the exception of the "learn-a-lick". Quality: Well, now I've had this pedal for over three years and already the navigational footswitches and channel footswitch are screwed. If it weren't for the fact I'm a handy guy, I don't know what I would have done. All the footswitches are big, cheap plastic buttons held in place by what looks like large paperclips. A number of times, I've had to open the pedal up and "jerry-rig" the footswitches so they will work, and even that is not consistant. Basically if used in a live setting this pedal is not the most reliable product, BUT when working the way it should, it is amazing and quality sounding pedal. Value: Compared to the price of buying all the different pedals and sounds included in this one product, this pedal is worth what I've paid and what I've seen as far as retail prices on the web and in-store. Manufacturer Support: I've only used their website for getting a copy of the manual, which was there and easy to find.....otherwise I've never contacted them for support. The Wow Factor: As far as asthetics, I feel the look is kinda Fisher Price. A dull grey metal casing, with big blue buttons and knobs and a big, bright display. That's cool and all, but just not my style. BUT since it has SO many features that sound good, I beleive that the ugly duckling is truly a swan. Overall: Having used this pedal for about three years iin all sorts of occasions....concert performances, backyard bbqs (be sure to put cardboard underneath!!), practice, recording.....I have been very happy with the RP300. I am looking to replace it with some specfic pedals to acheive a specific sound, but am not in a hurry as this unit takes care of my needs in the meanwhile. I will never get rid of this pedal....it'll have to straight-up break for good before I get rid of it. If there were a specific complaint I have it would be that there are FAR too many ways to change your volume. Between your guitar, this pedal, and your amp, there are like 8 or 9 ways to turn your volume up and down. Way too confusing and creates inconsistancies when changing settings that can really piss you off if in a live situation. For it's price, it's a damn good buy...and a great tool for giving your music options. My advise would be that any developing guitar player would love using and learning from this pedal....through time you may out grow it, but the experience will be worth it.
