BODY SHAPE

When we set out to create a guitar that would surpass the classic big body sound of the dreadnought, we didn't just want it to be loud. We sought to bring out more tonal complexity, and to offer a much more comfortable playing experience, too. Introducing the new Breedlove Concerto, a new guitar shape created to elicit more volume than a classic dreadnought, and more lush, complex tonal resonance in a comfortable body shape that feels just right. Loud, textured, and supremely satisfying.

Using our unique new sound profiling technology, we dial in just the right frequency for each piece of exotic tonewood, bringing out its special characteristics so you hear not just volume, but a palette of distinct tonal flavors.

SOUND PROFILING

With the goal of crafting the world's finest guitars, we have applied breakthrough technology that takes sound creation to a whole new level. The debut of our 2017 BIG SOUND instruments reveals the results from work by leading experts, research institutions and our own experimentation. We've advanced the creation and projection of sound and complexity of tone by working with--instead of against--the variability in the woods from forests read more around the world.

Music wood varies substantially among species, within trees of the same species and within an individual tree. Each tree has its unique life span experience. There is as much as a 30% variance in the density and frequency of tonewood cut to the same dimension within the same tree.
Most guitar production companies ignore these complex inconsistencies, cutting their tops and backs to a uniform, pre-determined dimension. At Breedlove, we embraced a far more complicated process, setting a new standard aimed at getting the most music out of every instrument we build. We have learned to capitalize on variation, developing exclusive technology: Breedlove SOUND PROFILING.

BREEDLOVE NECK

Breedlove guitar necks feature a slimmer neck profile, which enables comfortable play, even with smaller hands. Unlike traditional dovetail neck joints that require major surgery for a neck re-set, it is easy to adjust the play action and neck angle with the Breedlove bolt-on neck and single-action truss rod. The hand-rubbed, semi-gloss Breedlove neck finish contributes to ideal playability - the finish process alone takes three days, including precise finish coat applications, fine sanding, and hand buffing and rubbing.

TOP, BACK, AND SIDE WOODS

Myrtlewood, umbellularia californica, formerly oreodaphne californica, originates in the western United States in Northern California and Oregon. Myrtlewood offers a strong fundamental with a powerful voice. Similar to maple, it has a clear and bright voice with superb projection and sustain, and offers a full and balanced sound. A versatile non-traditional tonewood, it is a favorite for many styles of playing. Myrtle has very unique and widely varied figure – no two sets are alike. Coloration ranges from blonde to taupe.

As a satisfied owner of an 11 year old Korean-Made Breedlove Atlas AC25/SR Plus (still going strong!), I was already leaning towards Breedlove for my first high-end American Made acoustic. However, I spent time playing Taylor 4 and 5 series, Martin 16s and 18s of various shapes and Gibson J45 and AG Hummingbird because I wanted to make sure my bias didn't prevent me from getting the best guitar for my money. After playing over 10 other great guitars, I still came back to the Breedlove for its sound, tonal range, comfortable neck and the beautiful look of natural Myrtlewood grain. Every time I strum, the guitar sings with a resonance and sustain I just don't hear from the other models mentioned. And this neck is sooo easy to play. For comparison, it reminds me of a Taylor 6 or 714, but for $1200 less of course. Quality: Fantastic, out of the box the action was absolutely perfect, fit and finish flawless. I went over this thing with a fine-tooth comb and can't find anything to complain about.Playability: Breedlove is known for super comfortable satin necks, and this one is no different. It plays like butter. The concerto shape is just as comfortable as a concert body.Features: It comes with the soundhole-mounted LR Baggs EAC VTC pickup, sounds very natural plugged in. But, I miss the built in tuner featured on Fishman Pickup systems and I can't see what my volume or tone is set to at any given time. I'll surely live, but as someone who does gig once a week i miss the convenience.Sound: read more Play it if you ever come across one, the concerto shape truly changes the game. It'll out perform any other acoustic in the price range.Materials: Love the myrtle wood, it's just plain gorgeous. Be careful though because the grain of every top will look different. Luckily if you buy from zZounds you will see hi-res pictures of the exact guitar you're buying, can't say that about other retailers. Ebony bridge and fretboard, tusk nut, hard rock maple neck, great tuners. It's well appointed for sure.TLDR: Buy it!
