"Blows everything in the price range out of the water!"

Feature:
Just a mic in a box. need a mic stand to hold it.

Quality:
Built like a rock, not because it's round, but because it feels like the strongest mic I've ever held.

Value:
Best bang for your buck

Desirability:
It's a Ball! how cool is that! and its Blue!

Sound:
Extremely flat, very accurate representation of whats being played. Low noise. Makes other microphones seem like telephon receivers.

Overall:
I only see myself upgrading from this product for one that costs ten times as much.

"The Uncube, chicks dig it."

Feature:
No accessories. Don't really need any though. Sounds great with Monster or Pro-Co cable. Seriously not-so-great with cheap cables (seeing as how better, and usually thicker, cables carry low frequencies better anyways). The low HF rolloff comes in handy more than you'd think.

Quality:
It sounds totally great for it's price and i wouldn't expect any less in the electronics coming from BLUE. Honestly though, I wish it were metal instead of plastic. I'm always worried about it getting cracked.

Value:
Well, it's the only one I know of with specs like it out there. And it sounds great. And it's pretty cheap.

Desirability:
Man, this thing gets chicks too, let me tell ya. Just look at it.

Sound:
Really quiet with a great low end punchy sound. I've used for bass drum (along with a condenser) , trombone and bass cabinet. I've found it better for loud, rock type music. Not the most colorful mic but plenty of mid presence pushes any low freq instrument through.

Support:
BLUE is Great! And really funny. Totally awesome customer support. I own many of their products and it's always fun to talk to them. Warrenties have never been a negative issue.

Overall:
As long as it's electronics stay good and it doesn't get cracked, i'll be using it. Maybe even pick up another one.

BLUE Ball Dynamic Microphone
Meet The Ball, the latest addition to Blue's award-winning family of hand-built microphones. So-named for its unique shape and inimitable Blue styling, The Ball is Blue's first offering in the dynamic mic category. But a phantom-powered dynamic? Yes. And no. Most recordists know that conventional dynamic mics do not require external DC power. Rather, they employ a relatively simple circuit and derive their output voltage through electromagnetic induction. While this makes them rugged, reliable and easier to operate than their electrostatic counterparts, they also present the user with a unique set of problems. Chief among these is frequency-dependent variable resistance which has dramatic effects on the transducer's acoustic balance, phase coherence, noise specification and overall output. Their engineers solved this problem by incorporating a phantom-powered proprietary active balancing circuit in The Ball's output stage. This circuit maintains a constant pure-resistive 50-ohm load across the useable frequency spectrum yielding an exceptionally smooth and open sound previously unheard of in a dynamic microphone. Additionally, as a dynamic mic, The Ball is capable of handling extremely high sound pressure levels without distortion, making it the ideal choice for studio, stage, broadcast, film or any other applications where reliability, versatility and the utmost sound quality is required.

Phantom-powered dynamics? The Ball and Kickball have all the rugged, high-SPL characteristics of a dynamic mic, plus active balancing circuitry to even-out the frequency response. The result is an all-around workhorse with surprising condenser-like character. The Ball is great for all instrument sources, while the Kickball's custom-tailored bass response is perfect for high-impact kick drums. Make sure all your mixes have Balls!

Frequency response 35Hz-16kHz; 146dB max SPL.
