Alesis AM2 Condenser Microphone

No longer available at zZounds
Record rehearsals or performances with this affordable microphone. Clips and stereo bar mount are included -- just add a mic stand and cables.

The Alesis AM2 is a cardioid condenser microphone kit with two AM2 microphones, windscreens, clips, a padded hard case, and an XY-stereo mount.

Alesis AM2 microphones are low profile, miniature cardioid condensers with switchable -10dB attenuation and a high-pass filter. These XLR mics capture all of the nuance and subtlety that separate good recordings from great ones. With a clean FET amplifier and a transformer-less output stage, AM2 microphones offer low self-noise, high-resolution audio capture. Their small-diaphragm condenser capsules offer excellent pickup of the "air" that characterizes high-quality small-diaphragm condensers.

AM2 microphones can be used very close to a sound-source without the sound becoming harsh. The switchable high-pass filter reduces interferences through subsonic and low frequencies remarkably and compensates for proximity effect. The attenuation switch enables the microphone to handle high sound pressure levels without distortion.

The AM2 Stereo Set includes a hard, padded case for transporting the kit from studio to stage, from field-recording to production work. An included double stereo stand mount enables secure placement on any standard microphone stand.

For high-fidelity, high-resolution, high-definition recording, the AM2 Stereo Set tears down the wall separating quality and price.

I've recorded with a lot of different mics over the years and these have got to be the best value I've found. The AM2 mics live up to their advertised performance and then some. They are low noise and very natural sounding. I bought them on a whim, but I am so pleased with their sound that I will be packing up some of the other mics I have been recording with....yes, the AM2 s are THAT good!
Sound
Very transparent and natural sounding for recording acoustic guitar. These mics capture subtle sounds that other mics I've used don't.
Features
The high-pass and dB attenuation switches work as advertised. Turning on the high-pass allows close mic'ing without getting "boomy" bass. The attenuation switch enables the mics to be used to capture very loud sources like drums and guitar amps.
Ease of Use
Plug it in and put it on a mic stand...that's all there is to it.
Quality
For the price I expected these mics to have cheap plastic bodies, but they are metal and feel very solid and robust.
Value
There is no doubt that these mics are as good as mics that cost up to 10X what I paid for them. That makes these mics an exceptionally great value!
Manufacturer Support
No problems with the mics, so I have not contacted the manufacturer.
The Wow Factor
They are actually pretty cool looking! They are small and just look like more expensive mics.
