This recorder includes 2 XLR-1/4 in. combo jacks with 48v phantom power to accept your favorite dynamic or condenser microphones. Now you can adjust the input level and add compression, limiting, and mic modeling effects, all in real-time. You'll be sure your tracks sound their best at the time you record them, so editing goes smoother than ever before.
4-Track recording mode
Maybe you're saying 'mics are great, but I record live bands and want more control over the mix.' The H4's got you covered there, too. Switch to 4-track recording mode and use those combo inputs with a direct guitar, bass, or keyboard signal. You can also tap into a feed from the mixing board for larger projects. For example, you bring a group mix of instruments in on two tracks, vocals on the third, and a room mic in on the fourth for ambience. For what I need it for... which is recording piano solos and concerts, band practices and ensembles and creating demo CDs, I don't think I will need anything else. Plus, I can hook up my ouw mics if should choose to go that route.
Sound
The quality of sound that this thing records is amazing. The mics are very good. I have recorded live piano music so far and if you didn't know it was a recording, you would swear that you were listening to a live performance.
Features
I like the tripod holder. The screen is a little small and it would be great if you could have the backlight stay on and not turn off after a few seconds.
Ease of Use
This is so simple to use it is rediculous. Its like using a point and shoot camera. If you can use a digital camera, you can use this thing. It has a lot of other fetures that i haven't used and may never need. Those may take more experisnce to use but for simple record... just point and shoot.
Quality
I think the quality is great. Time will tell how well it holds up. I can't see any quality issues with this unit so far.
Value
I don't know of any other product out there like this. It may seem rather expensive when you look at it and then look at the price. Try it out...hear the results and checkout other digital recording equipment out there. It would cost much more to set other… read more equipment with the same capability and sound quality as the H4.
