The Tama Imperialstar is a great "entry-level" drum set. But why is the new Imperialstar the best entry-level kit ever? Because this time everything is upgraded. So only the price is entry-level. Learn More...

"Read this.. I was in your position..."

Feature:
The most useful features of this set was for me living in an apartment. It still has a great tone but not that room vibrating sound from the bass drum. I have now moved it to a house in the garage and took duct tape off the heads and it sounds like a normal set. It is very easy to transport places. Fits in the back seat. The least feature i did not like was the 18 X 14 bass. It was fine but they can at least make it 16 X 18 that would of been great. Other than that this set is a great set for beginners and +. I recommend this set to beginners and people on a tight budget, because once i was in your position.

Quality:
Its a TAMA! The only part not made well is the throne, but there are many ways to get around that. The product is very easy to take to gigs and practice on. It looks great, mine is a vintage red, its very nice. If you want to add on to it get black. Its hard to find upgrades in red. This has lasted me a year so far, Im going to keep it for practice when i upgrade in a couple years.

Value:
This is the best set for the price range. If you are looking to buy a set thats not cheap but below 500$ then get this. Very nice sound, especially when tuned. I think the only competitor with this product is a ludwig set. But yet, they do not come with cymbals or a throne.

Desirability:
When i first saw this set I fell in love with it. I had my eye on this and the CB drum set. This one had both looks and sound. It was perfect for me. Fits in my room! I jam with a couple of guitarists and i over power them... so dont be afraid of this set being too small and weak.

Sound:
You may not be able to get the super low deep feeling but as long as you tune this bad boy it will sound great!

Ease of Use:
It is fairly simple to tune, putting it together was easy, its very easy to haul to your friends garage or another place. Like i said it fit in my back seat. It fits in my room perfectly and my room is very small. What messes you up is the throne sinking down when you play. I fixed mine by drilling a hole and sticking a screwdriver through. Saved me a lot of money. It is very easy to get the sound you want from this set!

Support:
I havent had to deal with any problems with tama, which is very good.

Overall:
When I decide to upgrade in a few years i will keep this set for practice. This set helped me a lot. I wish I knew about the bass drum size but looking back now it doesnt affect it as much. If this was lost or stolen i would definitely get the same one unless i had more money then id buy a gretsch...

"Exactly what I needed for exactly what I wanted to pay."

Feature:
The hardware is great, the tom mount for instance is as heavy duty as the ones on my Starclassic maple kit. The cymbal and snare stands are double braced. Nice touch. The hi-hat, throne and kick pedal are light duty, but they'll do fine if you aren't applying hardcore force to them in which case this isn't the kit for you. If you're a bigger than average dude or dudette the throne might be a tad wobbly for you. The cymbals, well the cymbals are a weak point. They're really not usable for anyone but an utter beginner. But think of them as extra packing material. The rest of the kit is well worth the ticket price and more.

Quality:
Fit and finish for the drums, and stands is just great. With proper care they should last a long time. As I mentioned above the hi-hat, kick pedal and throne are light duty. The cymbals needed to be replaced but I knew that going in and purchased a nice set of low-end, cast bronze cymbals to go with the kit. Everything came out of the box in perfect shape. No quality control issues.

Value:
This kit is worth every penny of the current asking price. It is lower priced than comparable compact kits for other manufacturers. I chose it because the sizes were perfect for what I need, the color was great, I read positive reviews from other owners here and around the web and I trust Tama. Even with replacing the cymbals I was able to stay within my budget.

Sound:
Excellent drums for the money. I was half-expecting a toy set, but this is a pro kit, albeit in small sizes, perfect for a jazz or acoustic gig - just what I needed.

Ease of Use:
The drums sounded awesome out of the box with very little fuss. That little bass drum is punchy and full, a huge surprise. I had heard complaints about the snare drum but I got a very usable sound with very little tuning effort. everything set up very, very easily. Tama hardware is nice and good looking.

Overall:
I wanted a kit that was of good quality in compact sizes from a name I could trust at a price I could afford. I got exactly what I wanted on all counts.

About This Product!
Description
From Our Catalog
Tama's Stagestar kit features famous Swingstar quality, with smaller shells -- designed to fit in tighter spaces. It's the perfect kit for the young student who deserves a real drum set and not a toy. Working drummers who find themselves on stages originally designed for just one performer will find the Stagestar size a real plus. For premium tone, the shells are crafted of 8-ply 9mm Philippine Mahogany.

More than a few drummers have told Tama that "innovative" is the first word they think of when they hear the name "TAMA." Tama is very proud of that. Since 1974, they've worked hard to come up with new ideas -- not complex innovations for innovations' sake, but forward thinking, practical designs that allow drummers to play exactly what they want and how they want to play it.

In the 70's, TAMA advanced the evolution of the modern drum set by reinventing drum hardware. Tama's designers replaced the old fashioned thin and unstable stands of the times with the first double-braced hardware, boom stands, and multi-clamps -- sturdy and flexible equipment players needed to handle the new heavier drumming styles and larger, more complex set-ups. In the 80's, TAMA introduced the Camco chain-drive pedal, the X-hat auxiliary hi-hat and the first twin pedals with both beaters in a single housing - now the industry standard in double-pedal construction.

The 90's brought even more innovations. Iron Cobra pedals delivered "the feel that's unreal," 1st Chair thrones offered comfort with support and TAMA FastClamps made drum set up, if not more fun, at least a whole lot faster than ever before.

TAMA innovations aren't limited to hardware. They've introduced Octobans, Gong Bass Drums and Tymp-Toms to the drummer's lexicon. TAMA's 1980's Artstar drums ignited the thin-shell revolution. Artstar's "thin yet strong" shells allowed optimum vibration from head to shell while providing the strength to maintain shell roundness and integrity -- even under extremes of high lug tension and heavy playing. TAMA's L-Rod mounting system eliminated the need for shell penetrating hardware such as the mounting pipes that sap shell vibration.

The culmination of these 2 design concepts was the 1994 debut of Starclassic drums. Augmenting Starclassic's thin, strong shells was the new Star-Cast mounting system, the first free suspension mounting design that was simple to operate and had no adverse effects on tuning. Other drum makers have followed Tama by adopting thinner shells and free floating systems, but none have set the same pace or the standard.

Are there more innovations today? Definitely. For the professional, they've added new features and options. Their snare drum line - already the most comprehensive of any drum maker - features a wider selection of snare drums than ever with all-new shell materials and snare technology. There is also plenty of great new gear for players on a budget -- the upgraded Rockstar and Swingstar lines demonstrate Tama's unflagging commitment to offer more pro features and sound at entry-level prices.
