"Sleek and Filled with Sound!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
It appears that this keyboard could take me through quite a few years. I would probably only upgrade if I started playing out or was doing a lot of arranging for others.
Sound
The sounds are very realistic with a great number of voices to choose from. The speaker amp could be a bit more powerful, but this is not a real drawback as I plan to hook this into my home studio.
Features
Loaded with features. Some I probably won't use on a regular basis.
Quality
Well made, maybe a tad plasticy, but should hold up well for in home use. The window over the display may become an issue. It's plastic and the display model showed some scratches over the display.
Value
The keyboard itself is a good value, but watch out for the accessories. You have to buy the a/c power supply separtly. This did come in a "Survival Kit" that included headphones, sustain pedal and a DVD. The DVD is mainly just Yamaha self-promotions.
Manufacturer Support
Not needed as of yet.
The Wow Factor
Compared to some of the other beginner keyboards, this is a gem. It is sleek and well laid out. No funky colors or oddly shaped buttons to clutter up the top of the keyboard. The buttons are well labled, but colored so that they blend into the overall color of the keyboard and are not a distraction when playing.

"My New Best Friend"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

I will keep this instrument as long as it keeps working. It has more features than I will ever use. If somebody stole it, I would buy the same model again.
Sound
The piano and organ sounds are lovely. The woodwinds and brass are very nice. The guitar sounds do not sound as real. There are a few bass sounds that are muted or absent: these occur in some organ and bass instrument sounds. I called the Yamaha corporation about this. They explained that some bass sounds are beyond the ability of the speakers to pick up. This is a little disappointing, but you can use the split feature to compensate. There are many, many sounds that are excellent and more than enough for any one person to play. The keys make a slight clunky noise, and the black keys clunk louder than the white keys. Depending on the volume you play at, this might not even be a problem. Mostly you will hear the clunking when you use the headphones.
Features
The Survival Kit is good. You get the adapter which you would have to buy anyway, a foot pedal, headphones, and the one-year warranty is extended to two years. The headphones are Koss brand. They look cheap, but they sound fine. You also get, for free with the instrument, a music book that gets you started right away. This is really nice if you cannot afford to buy sheet music yet. The selection of songs is challenging enough for adults who are serious about playing.
Quality
The quality is lightweight but sturdy. The keys are evenly placed.
Value
I cannot imagine a better way to spend a couple hundred dollars. This instrument will bring years of enjoyment.
Manufacturer Support
You can call the Yamaha corporation in California with your questions. There is NOT a toll free number.
The Wow Factor
It is compact and nicely designed. All features are clearly labeled. The color is silver: mechanical-looking and not pretty, but that's how they make things nowadays. I suggest Yamaha offer a choice of colors.
