I was considering the SP2 speakers, but after using these with my current equipment, I do not think I will be looking for anything else for my uses. These have outperformed my expectations. If I was doing larger venues, I might consider the QW line, but I believe that I will not need new/other PA speakers in the foreseeable future. I am over 50 years old now, and my playing out days are regrettably limited. These will probably be the last ones that I buy as I am not going to be rich and famous! LOL!
Sound
I purchased a pair of these to run pole mounted over a pair of EV Eliminator i subs I've had for over ten years (another great product in themselves!). The subs are powered by a PV2600 amp and the SP5's are powered by a Behringer EP2500 amp. They produce a lot of bass without the subs, but this setup is exceptional for sound quality. I use a Soundcraft M12 mixer, and the sound was so good with everything on the board set flat last night at the first gig with them I found I did not even need to hook up by 31 band graphic EQ. Clear, Clean, Loud. No farting out, no mater how hard they were driven. We play loud classic to modern rock, with the kick drum agressively mic'd. All I could say was WOW! I retired an old set of Peavey SP3's from the late 80's with this purchase. I am simply amazed at the power, punch, and clarity these offer.
Features
It's a PA cab. Two paralleled 1/4" inputs, and a speakon connector. They are not set up to biamp the speaker, but honestly they sound really good in full range mode. The horn is designed to angle the sound down towards the audience when pole mounted, and after walking around the venue last night while listening to recorded music during a break, I can say that they are very effective. The highs could be heard no matter where I was in the bar (3000 square foot building). They were not harsh sounding, but very natural, again with NO EQ used! The built in pole mounts are really useful, and looks great over the Eliminators. They are quite heavy and require two folks to pole mount, but after 30+ years of using Peavey products, I don't mind heavy. To me that equals durability. These are no longer mad of birch, so they are a bit heavier than the previous version of this speaker.
Ease of Use
Plug and play.
Quality
Well built, quality construction and materials. A good old USA Peavey product from the deep South. I don't like the plastic corners, but they appear to be quality. The new full steel grill is an improvement over the previous model.
Value
I'm sure there are cheaper comparable products, but this is an excellent product and American made to boot. I have actually seen a copy of these speakers on line. They look exactly the same (except for the aluminum Scorpion driver frame), and the asking price is about 1/2. I doubt that they are the same on the inside though. I shopped around for some time and found that you can get a deal on the SP5 speakers from both brick and mortar stores and online retailers - just ask. zZounds made me a deal that I could not beat, they actually beat everybody's else best deal!
Manufacturer Support
I haven't dealt with Peavey regarding this particular product. Previous contacts with their customer service/tech department regarding other Peavey gear I own have been outstanding. You actually get to talk to a human on the telephone, and they answer emails promptly. Very helpful and knowledgeable regarding their products.
The Wow Factor
it is a nice looking speaker, but looks in this type of product do not really influence my buying decisions, performance specs and reliability mean more to me...

"you will be satisfied"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
as long as these speakers are pumping i will be happy with them. they have so many different uses. you can set them up for side-fills stage monitors, djing or main speakers.
Sound
These speakers have have a pretty tight sound. the rx22 horn drivers will blow away most others out on the market. i have used these for both live sound and DJ'ing. when i was doing live sound i used a mackie ma-2500 for the power and when i was djing i used a Crest CA-12 both are very clean power amps. I also used a DBX 223xl crossover because i ran them bi-amped. in both enviroments these speakers really rocked.
Features
the one cool thing about these speakers is that you can run them full range or bi-amped. i recommend bi amping because you can really get those rx22's and scorpians pushing their full potential. at first i quickly set them up fullrange but i was unable to get a sound i really liked. i then hooked them up to the dbx crossover and wow they really pushed.
Quality
this product has the legendary peavey construction. after a few years of hard use, some of the carpet will start peeling. slap on some carpet glue and you will be set. it will be hard for you to blow these out, but if you do all the are easily exchangable.
Value
it would be wise to spend the money on these speakers and have them last rather than buying crate or behringers that are cheaper and will need replaced within the year.
Manufacturer Support
I have never had to deal with the support.
The Wow Factor
these speakers have a sharp look to them.

"My SP5"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I bought 2 pairs of brand new SP5 in Lebanon last year, i play and mix progressive trance as an amateur at home it's connected to a pro power amp Bose 2000 with a mixer and a graphic eq with Tascam the CD recorder all in one rack, only god knows what will happen when i crank it up, wow the quality sound is shivering, indeed the scorpion effect is tremendous, the bass has no limit so far and the building is trembling similar to an earthquake, bottom line i am very satisfied the speakers are worth every penny i paid.

"Great and true sound! clear precise and accurate."

I want to say that Peavey is highly underrated. Everyone says "that others are better" but the truth is that these speakers are so concise. The vocals talent shines through every time! If your LOOKING for a PRECISE, ACCURATE and uncollored sounding speaker; meaning what you sing or sound like is heard through these speakers then this is for you. I am not a marketer or am I bias in any way. When I HEAR a good speaker I go with it no matter what BRAND name it is. Hearing other jbl equipment the sound seems more dull or bassy in the midrange. Meaning that the bass singer is more boomy or the baritone is to woofy sounding. I have been playing and singing for 4 plus years and I am so picky about the sound of anything. These speakers really stood out in SOUND!!

"Peavey is the best"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I would never buy anything else, except for JBL srx series speakers.
Sound
Wow. These speakers if powered with a good amp (i use a behringer 2500) and a great mixer (PV 14 mixer) put out incredible sound quality, and lots of it too. The components in these cabs are top of the line. The RX22 compression drivers (tweeters) in these speakers are the same ones they put in the ultra high end QW series speakers. I play an acoustic drum kit (mapex saturn pro), but I also have a roland td-6 electronic kit. So sometimes I'll mix a few electronic pads in with my acoustic kit, and the sound is just amazing. JBL's are great speakers also, but you have to spend at least 429 duckets to get decent ones. If you don't want to go with high priced JBLs, that don't handle as much power and virtually sound the same, go with peavey. Plus these are easily the best looking cabinets money can buy, period (the pictures don't do them justice).
Features
Quality drivers, awsome cabinets (baltic birch is the best), and of course incredible sound quality.
Ease of Use
Just throw them on stands and plug em' in. They also are easily daisy chained. They only weigh like 50 pounds, which is nothing compared to most 80 lb cabs out there.
Quality
Peavey really does make some of the best sounding audio gear. They don't get the rep they sould for sound quality, I've played through Yamaha, JBL, mackie, just about every PA you can think of, and Peavey products sound just as good.
Value
With the same drivers they use in their QW series speakers, and baltic birch cabs, these speakers should easily be twice the price.
Manufacturer Support
I gave it a ten because you won't every need it with peavey products.
The Wow Factor
I own it
