Really researched out this purchase and was surprised at actually how small this unit is!! Love it....no more back aches. But in my research I read about the poor quality of the chinese tubes. Well, the unit did not sound bad when i test drove it, but I could not get it sounding like I wanted....really greasey, fat, dripping tube sound. Even some pedals i tried could not really get it there. Was considering a return, but then decided to follow some reviewers advice and changed the preamp tubes to JJs. WOW, what a freaking difference!!! I have some Mesa tubes on order and will try those too, but let me tell you, I am now totally hooked on this little amp. I am playing through two 10" open back cab and it really grooves out. Give this puppy a try with better tubes and you will love what you hear!!!

This is the best little recording amp in the world. I love it's sound. The built in Red Box DI is amazing. Way better then all the amp sim software or hardware based amp sims. Using this amp to record at night while the wife sleeps, and it's been the best thing to happen to my late night guitar sessions in years.

I rarely write reviews for my equipment, and I have a bunch of stuff ! The Tubemeister 18, however, deserves a shout out. It is not often that a piece of equipment lives up to its advertised specs and the reviews associated with it, but the tubemeister 18 passes the test. This is a great sounding little amp head. Crystal cleans and crunch you can't get enough of ! Newbies be aware, you have to have a speaker cabinet, a speaker cable, and some pedal reverb to put in front or in the loop, but once you are hooked up, you won't want to stop playing. There is plenty of power for medium to small size venues, and if you need some more, the DI into the PA gives you limitless volume. At lower volume, it would be nice to control the range of the boost switch, but this is a totally minor issue. Great amp!

So I waited over a year to review this amp and I can say with relative ease that its been a great little amp. Overall its my go to day to day amp. Plenty of head room and takes pedals really well. It not going to produce glassy cleans like a twin reverb or get as nasty as my Peavey but again it works really well with my pedal board. The clean channel gets where you need to go and gives you a lot of room to work with. The treble, mid and bass knobs are very responsive and give you a good amount of sweep to play with. I would say this is the jack of all trades kind of amp. Its super versatile and I've never put a pedal on this amp that didn't give me exactly what I wanted. Wish it had a built in reverb and included the footswitch. Honestly that's the only drawback I can think of.

This is an awesome head and awesome financing what I don't understand is why other amp manufactures don't install the redbox system in there heads for those of us who play in a venue with foh systems
