"Decent beginner bass or mod project"

I bought this bass because I prefer passive electronics. I always enjoyed the Musicman sound but didn’t want to spend a ton of money on the Ernie Ball models. At the price, it’s not too expensive and I was planning on dropping a new pickup in it and replacing the pots. If you’re looking for a beginner bass or looking for a mod project, this is a decent option. I’ve had this bass for over a year now and one thing I noticed that’s slightly different from when I first bought it is that the fret edges are starting to stick out a little more and it’s not as comfortable to play as it was when I first got it. Replacement necks have been difficult to find. The pickup isn’t terrible but the stock pots suck. The tone doesn’t gradually roll off, you get to a certain point when you’re adjusting the knob and the tone is basically 100 percent on or off. Also the pickup sounds terrible at full volume. Hoping to upgrade to a Seymour Duncan and put in better pots and tone capacitor along with the tuners. They also feel very cheap. Used this bass at a few gigs last year just to see how it would sound and I stopped using it and decided not to use again until it’s completely modified.
