Unique in the PRS lineup for its offset shape and pickup specs, this S2 Vela Satin offers a rustic, open-pore nitro finish for plenty of character.

What's special about this item?

Feature: What it does:
Mahogany body Rich, warm, focused sound; added sustain
Mahogany neck Great sustain, strength, and warm tone
Pattern regular neck Variation of PRS's "Standard" neck profile
Rosewood fretboard Open, warm tone and smooth playing feel

The S2 Vela Satin is a vintage-inspired guitar with loads of personality and tonal textures. The Vela boasts a contemporary offset body shape, and the addition of a thin, satin nitro finish provides added resonance and a truly addictive feel. Its pickguard-loaded electronics feature a PRS DS-01 pickup in the treble pickup position, providing a bright, punky tone, while the PRS Narrowfield in the bass pickup position gives the Vela some noteworthy bite. The coil-tap on the tone control allows the treble pickup to split to single coils, providing additional tonal versatility.

Anchoring this guitar is the PRS plate-style bridge with two saddles that were designed to compensate for intonation. This bridge harkens back to Paul's early designs and traditional bass plate-style bridges but is top-loading for easy restringing. Like the bridge found on Paul's Guitar and some Private Stock models, PRS's plate-style bridge features brass saddles and a steel plate for maximum tone.

This is actually my third Vela from PRS, and it's the upgraded generation. The electronics are all American-made, and that improves the build quality, although all of these instruments are built in Maryland. When comparing this to my previous Velas it comes with the same excellent consistency of build that you expect from PRS. The neck pickup has been replaced by a new Narrowfield model, and I'm really warming up to this pickup. It is a bit bolder and I do like the tonal quality. Overall, I am very pleased with this instrument as it came in under 6 lbs. which is so desirable when you're playing a long gig. And lastly I would like to speak to cosmetics. The blue color is beautiful and I just love the offset shape of a Vela which distinguishes it. Playing a satin neck is wonderful, as it offers little friction as you move up and down the fretboard. I highly recommend this guitar to those who appreciate the quality of a PRS instrument, and want a guitar that is unique, comfortable to play, and provides a lot of sonic versatility.
