"Not for epiphone les paul"

I have a epiphone les paul plus pro and bought this cap hoping it would fit. It doesn't. my epi cap screwed right off then tried to put on the gibson cap and found out the hole is way to big with no metal threading on the inside. Should it have metal threading on the inside? I just wanted to change the color of the cap.
